Default Advice NEEDED: Installer switching components on me

Im getting my system installed on thursday and had picked Boston Acoustics Pro series 6.5 components among other things...anyway my installer sold my set and is offering me Alpine spx-177R's in their place. Are they better/worse? am I getting ripped off? I am going to do some research but I'd like some outside opinions. THanks

The alpine can be had for about $225 from Ike sound vs. $400 for the Boston's. As far as sound quality goes I have not heard the Boston's but the Alpines sound surprisingly good for the money. Their crossover system are very flexible, and the speakers are sourced VIFA'S I believe. If it was me and your installer is not trying to gouge you on the alpines' price I wouldn't hesitate in going that way. Spend the extra savings on dynmat and you would be far ahead of the curve.

I've never heard an alpine speaker that sounds as good as a BA. I have the Pro's (6.53s) and wouldn't switch them out for alpines. no way. Tell him to order you another set! They probably just got a spif on the Alpine's; I'm sure if you press it, he might "find another pair at our other store" or somehting like that....

How much is/was he charging for the BAs?

Yup, I would never trade BA's for Alpine's. That's just me though, I'm a die-hard. I hope if you go with the Alpine, you get a BIG price discount vs. what you were gonna shell out for the BA's. And besides, can you really trust this guy? He already lied to you and sold your speakers out from under you by the sound of it. I'd be looking for another installer if somebody tried to pull that on me. Worse comes to worse, threaten to report him to the Better Business Bureau. That usually gets things done. This is definitely sounds like shady business. Good luck!

I just had to deal with Boston on a warranty issue, and they were incredible. When I get around to gettign some home theater stuff, it's gonna be BA without a doubt...

If you were expecting certain products don't let the installer push you to another product. Tell him to let you know when he has the products in that you expected. Or find another store.

ya, its always better to not just make a snap judgement like that. You know what you want, and it will come in time. Waiting is always the hardest part.
