Default SES / CEL because of radio install?

I installed an Alpine 9835 into my Touring with Bose.

I did not wire into the car battery thinking I wouldn't be using the radio amplifier (but it has clearly been playing at a higher input level) and just use the wire bracket to go into the Bose amp and play the OEM speakers/amp for now.

When I got done installing and testing out the install (besides the high volume), I got a Service Engine Soon light. I read the ECU reset process and got it to blink on two separate occasions. I still have an SES light.

Any thoughts?

I wish I could simply ODB the car to find out what the error is... thanks for your help.

If you didn't unplug the battery and unplugged the little white box that is under the radio you just got a ton of codes, that just need to be cleared.

I did unplug the two grey plugs but not the white one.

Wouldn't the ECU reset procedure on technosquared clear the codes? Or is this a dealer-only procedure?

Should I still have the white box plugged in?

You should be able to clear them with the TS reset procedure.

The problem is that the white box has a few signals that go through it so if unplugged without the battery being disconnected the light will come on. The white plug just connects it to the a/c controls so that one is fine to diconnect it is the other ones.

I'm pretty sure (99.9%) that the white box is connected with all three plugs. And I think I completed 2 successful ECU resets with the TS procedure.

I don't know where to go from here except a dealership that can ODB the car. Great... (sarcasm)

Just a reminder to anybody doing thier own install. DO NOT TURN THE IGNITION ON WHEN THE WHITE BOX IS UNPLUGGED!!!!!!!!!!!

You will get a CEL/SEL.

Sorry to hear you got one man. A generic ODB2 scanner will take care of it. Go to Pepboys or something like it and they will probably do it for free. You will be raped at any dealership.

Thanks for the info.

I don't know if anyone reading this thread will be able to answer, but when I was an Audi folk... we had a program called VAG-COM to do our own ODB2 work.

Does anyone make/sell such a program for personal use on a Nissan? We were able to do door lock programming, CEL clears, etc. Small stuff but it sometimes was worth it to troubleshoot errors on a CEL.

www.digimoto.com works great, it gives you the codes for the cell as well as being able to clear them, it also lets you do 1/4 mile, dyno, monitor parameters and it is only 100 bucks, you use it with your laptop or handheld.

Ahhhhhh this answer my confusion as well. I installed my ps2 and 7" screen. I unplugged everyhting to get it all outta the way to make everyhting easier. Was finished the install and turned the car on to enjoy my new screen and BOOM!! SES came on, I almost threw up cause i had no idea why it was coming on. So i was all pissed off and just unhooked my battery for a couple hours. The light is off now and hasnt come back on yet? Am i ok? Or should i throw a scan tool on it and check it out. I work at a delership so i have access to 5 million tools and electronics. Any advice? Thanks!

You should be alright, all you needed was to rest the ECU and now it is OK.

I just did a head unit, monitor install on mine and I made sure not to turn the key to ignition without plugging the climate control back in. So I had to keep plugging it in and unplugging it to make sure all my connections were good before putting it all back together, got kind of annoying.
