Default best sub in stock location?

I want to get a 10" sub in the STOCK LOCATION and am wondering which route to go:

1) stock Bose sub
2) JL Audio 10w3
3) Infinity Basslink
4) Bazooka tube

my main concern is that the sub will be in an open air compartment. any opinions?

Go one up and get the JL Audio 10W6v2. It will fit, and it will sound awesome if properly installed.

What needs to be done in order for it to be properly installed? Dynomat the entire area so it's sealed? Can you elaborate b/c the Pioneer P2 I have in there sounds like ***.

I'm not sure how well the 10w6v2 would work in an IB install. You will need to seal off the area as much as possible, Dynamat should work sufficiently (fiberglass would be better though). The Image Dynamics subs (IDMax 10, and ID v3) will work well in a free air setup.

ya you need to seal it completely with dynamat of course fiberglass will work as well. and it needs to be mounted correctly. Shouldnt be a problem for any good installer.

so i can use any sub in there as long as I cover the inside with some dynamat? i realize that car audio installers can do this without a problem, but i'm trying to do this myself to save some cash.

another question just popped into my head...would it be possible to have a 10" sub with it's sealed box and fit it into the compartment behind the driver's seat? or would that just be stupid...

pargion,

You can built a sealed box inside. I will take pictures for you tonight. I was able to achieve .6 cu ft for my Infinity Perfect 10.1d. I built the box using fiberglass.

On a side note, i have a basslink for sale. I used it for 3 months. I will sale it $150 shipped. I will include an amp kit (value at $20). Let me know if you are interested. The basslink had some minor scratches on the grille when I tried to fit it in the sub location.

bigfatjeffk,

I will get the spec when I get home. I am at work now (hehe). I build the rack like a stadium seating where the lower level sticks out more. It looks better in person cause I had to reduce the image.

For the sub, the *** like (hehe) is from clear caulking glue. It was getting late and I didn't want to pay $9 bucks for 3m spray.

I just figured that you really love your setup So how does that setup sound any rattling at all? I was thinking about mounting an Image Dynamics Sub in there but I wanted to make a fiberglass enclosure that is glassed to the back of the factory metal sub bracket, make it all 1 piece (wish I could explain it better).

cool, nice setup. i still haven't decided on which sub to get so i'll hold off on your basslink. ideally i want to just put a sub with the stock sub mount but maybe i'll go your route and stuff the whole box into the enclosure

eddieclayton,

The sound is really good. I was suprised. I just wanted to hear what it sounds like in the stock box and in the trunk. It sounded almost the same.

When I took it out of the stock location and let it standing up, I was so suprised of hard it hit. The back (bottom) panel flexes big time. My bottom was fiberglasss too. But when I have it position firing upward, there was a whole bunch of rattle (the reason the back panel was flexing and the trunk's floor is not stable).

Pargion,

The rack is 18x12x4.

What model is the Image sub and how much?

maserom,

What ID sub(s) are you running? Have any details/pictures of your setup?

Initially I was going to mount 2 IDMax 10's behind the seats (get another sub bracket). I don't really feel like sinking that much money into my setup so I'm probably just going to use 2 ID 10" v.3 subs
