Default Kenwood 7015 Impressions

I ordered the PNAV-7015 (HU + nav box) off of ebay last week for $1599 and got it all together and working. Everything with the transaction was fine, and the system was brand new and unopened, so for the people who had pm'd me yes I would recommend that seller (dynamicautosound).

I can't tell you enough how awesome this setup is

The screen almost looks like a stock component in the dash (I think the Eclipse blends in a little better but I had to have sat. radio), and 2 coworkers already want this setup after checking it out in my car. Setting the nav as the background lets me control sirius/radio/cd etc. then goes back to fullscreen nav after I haven't touched any buttons for a few seconds. Very cool interface overall, the nav addition definitely makes the system kick *** over just the HU. The background goes to black when the headlights go on, so my concern of it being distracting in my peripheral vision were unfounded.

If anyone wants any specific pics I can go snap some.

Install isn't that hard. I'm no stereo installer and it took me about 3 hours. Here's some pics

I did the install on the Head Unit and the Sirius box. This is easy, just a little time consuming. I paid an installer $99 to do the nav, I decided it was worth 99 bucks to have someone else tun all the wiring and tap into the stock wires that were needed and save me the time. I'll take some photos today.

I've got the same HU and must say it's the best I've ever had...just wish it had some visualizations, but i'm just going to make my own DVD and let it play in the background. Install was a little time consuming for me, since I wanted it flush (like it's shows above), had to measure and drill new holes in the factory brackets, not too hard, just took awhile to get it just right. Overall, I'm very pleased and can't wait to add on the rear-camera option and nav.

Here's some pics. A little bit of glare on them, I took them while driving and was holding the camera lower than eye level so it was getting reflections you don't normally see.

nav screen

radio popup on the bottom (controls can also go fullscreen)

dvd

satellite box location

nav location

basslink location

Hey Pat, what are your impressions of the Basslink? I really love that Kenwood setup, I think I will be contacting that company you listed soon.

The basslink is good and a big stepup from the stock system, but doesn't hit as cleanly as a good sub in a proper enclosure. I would have gone with an under strut box, but I wanted everything as stealth as possible. It works for me and I like it, but I do miss the nice bone jarring hits of my old car

the dash kit is the one from crutchfield (metra I believe)

I have the same unit and want to get it flush.

Any tips on the drilling process you mention?

Also, how did the metra kit fit pat?
I had the same kit and installer said it didn't fit well.

I just grounded the parking switch wire to a common ground.

The metra kit fit fine for me.
I measured where to drill the holes but still ended up having to drill twice to get it right. I did overdrill the size a little bit, then loosely mounted the screws. Then I mounted it to the dash piece, looked at it from the front and got it positioned exactly where I wanted it then tightened the side screws.

Hello,
I have seen where to buy the Kenwood 7015 but how do you get the Nav setup with it also? Can you give me contact information from the guy you bought it from? Thanks!

go to ebay and look for the seller dynamicautosound. He sells the PNAV-7015 (thats the headunit + nav system) for $1599 + shipping. You can also pick up the nav by itself, knav-4100 (i think) is the name.

Total with headunit/nav, sirius box and antenna, wiring and dash kit was right at $1780.

Pat, the info on this HU says it has an RGB input. Did you happen to notice exactly what kind of connector it used for video in? I assume its a composite line. I am looking for something that would display output from a PC.

Would you mind taking a picture of a close up of the route guidance system? Does it display in 3d? Also does it provide route guidance voice system, i mean will it come up while im driving and tell me turn left in a quarter mile (same like a factory system would)? Also can you take a picture close up of the xm mode.. like full screen, or cd whichever? Also have you used the MP3 part at all?

If I buy this complete system is there ANYTHING else i will need when i go about doing this?

also in all pictures i find on the internet, they have the unit right below the screen, are they separate or are they actually connected, it just hides behind the screen on your setup? sorry if that's a dumb question.. just curious!
