Default ::sigh:: rear view mirror problems...

ok, to start, i love bass. I have installed 3 different systems in my car and finally came to one i love to death. MTX 10 inch 9500 Thunder. It hits soo hard and is rather small. Hits all the right sounds i am looking for, so all in all i am happy. However, in the last 4 months i have had to replace my rear view mirror twice and driving home from work yesterday my rear view came undone for the 3rd time. I am now at a point where i dont know what to do next. Do i drop another 250 on another rear view and just turn it down a little more... or do i take a huge loss and sell everything and go on like normal people with a stock system... If anyone has any suggestion please respond..

ripping out the whole system or spending $250 on a new mirror seems a lil obserd , there has got to be a better way. Go to a window replacement shop , they usually has sum kick *** adhesives that should do the trick.

Snizatcher,

You mean a little piece like this--> --{ that holds the mirror? Like a small tube?

How about buying a new mirror and this time wrap with electric tape around it?

Today, I took my Infinity Perfect 10.1d (in a custom box) out of the stock location and place it in the trunk area. The dam thing makes the mirror vibrates like crazy.

I cannot imagine a higher end sub can do!!!

Btw, the sounds was like 10x better than the stock location. So much air flow. I am confused where i should put it now.

Are you sure you're not overtightening the mirror. I have two PPI 12's and haven't busted that piece. The mirror rattels like crazy, but it hasn't busted...I'm working on a design to add two additional supports for the sides of the mirror to eliminate rattle. Maybe you could try that. Good luck, and you must have the 10 rocking to bust that thing

One more time .... Liquid nails!

b4 u slide the mirror on the metal peice put a little Liquid nails of the base. then tighten her down. This will stup her from moving upwards.

I mean u may never be able to get her off again, but y would u need to.

its hard to explain exactly the peice that is breaking... if you look at your mirror there is a piece of metal inside, like a joint or should i say a ball and socket kinda of setup... well the metal joint at the edge of the ball keeps snapping off... think about catching a rearview at like 75 MPH on a highway while maneuvering through light traffic, its not fun.

Well rotary if you find a way to make those support pieces let me know cause i will buy it. Whatever it is i am sure it will be less than buying a new mirror every 3 months.

Thanks for the help guys and i will see if liquid nails could help my problem...

DUDE, same thing happened to me. It was rather funny how it happened, and when all was said and done, I was more happy than mad.

Here is the story (warning the language used might be offensive...words like RX-8, give up, et al):

I am rolling down the Hardy Tollroad (here in H-Town) and I'm minding my own business. I have my system up loud, ok REALLY LOUD. Anyway, I'm rollling along and this dude in an RX-8 comes up from behind me and tries to pass...TRIES to pass me. So I down shift and speed up so he doesn't get the pleasure of using my lane I continue to hold him off for about 4 miles, all the while my system is still just bumpin it's a$$ off. Well, I am about to make a pretty sweet move in traffic when KABAM my god damn rear view mirror come flying down from the windshield.

At this point I basically freak the F**k out. I have no idea what just happend other than I can't see behind me anymore and my mirror is hanging down by the wire. At this point I have to "give up" the lane to the RX-8, he rolls by, laughs and takes off. Mean while, I am trying to figure out what just happened. I exit and stop at the nearest gas station and to my surprise the metal has SNAPPED in half just above the ball joint. So I'm thinking, this stupid piece of crap car, first the tires, then the tranny and now THIS.

BUT then it hits me...DAMN MY SYSTEM IS THE $hit!!!! I JUST BROKE MY REAR VIEW MIRROR WITH IT. So I unplug the cord from the back of it, adjust my side mirrors, crank my $hit back up continue on home.

Just thougth I would share....and to the dude in the RX-8 if you are reading this...YOU LOST BIATCH!!!!

The exact same thing happened to me with (2) JL Audio 10w7's on a 1000/1. The mirror move up and down so much that the weight of the mirror snaps the metal near the ball joint when the bass hits. I played stupid and had it replaced under warranty, but don't think that that will be an option in the future. What I have done to prevent it from happening again is to insure that when the mirror vibrates to where it's pointing down, I quickly move it up so that it do not bounce on the point where it can no longer move down any further. I think that is why it snapped the rod. If you allow it to rest with the mirror pointing down, it has no more shocked absorbing capabilities because it is being stopped by the joint itself. I have found that continually adjusting the mirror back up has kept this mirror attached longer than my last one.

Happened to me too! I have 2 10w6's with a 500/1. My mirror was replaced under warranty (And I personally feel it should be if they didn't build the mirror strong enough). I have a feeling it's about to happen again though, since it seems like the mirror drops more when the bass hits than it used to.

Anyways, it can be pretty scary when it happens. Mine actually broke when my music was off... I turned the music off because there was a really bad crash on the other side of the freeway and they had a helicopter landing right beside me. Everyone's eyes were on the crash so when the mirror broke with a loud "thud" and seeing the movement in the corner of my eye... it scared the **** out of me cuz I thought either I had driven into someone or someone had accidently drifted into me while looking at the crash. I was relieved to find it was just my $300 mirror hanging by its wires over my dash.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that this has happened to.

FYI .. I some states you do NOT need a rearview mirror if you have two side mirrors.

I have considered taking mine off completely, but all my HomeLink buttons are on it. If there was anyway to remove the mirror and transfer the buttons to the headliner, I would.

man this same thing happened to me too a while back. running 2 w3v2's with a 500/1. dealer was nice enough to replace the mirror under warranty, even though they were well aware of the audio system. i really hope this doesn't happen again after warranty runs out because i dont want to have to spend 200-300 bucks for this damn thing.
