Default Help - Speaker wire routing

I'm in the process of following the How-To on this site for routing speaker wire through the existing door connector. I've routed the wire, and am putting the connector back together. I've got everything back together, but have a problem. When the door is open, everything works properly (windows, mirror, lock). However, as soon as I slam the door shut, everything stops working. As soon as I open the door again, though, everything works again. I've actually found that if I shut the door very lightly, everything still works, but obviously this is not a long term fix. Can anyone help me with ideas?? Thanks!

Hmm, I would say that you might have drilled out the connector improperly and some of the metal pins might be getting squished and are making contact with each other when you close the door.

I did the same mod. Take the connector back apart and ensure you didn't drill through any other connectors. Strange thing with mine...I did the mod about 3 months ago and everything has worked, but with a new head unit now if I slam the door shut, the stereo goes mute for about 3 seconds..and then starts working again??
What size wire did you use

I'll have to check on the drilling tonight. If that is the case, what are my options for a fix? Do I need to replace the entire connector?
I'm running 2 26 gauge wires through (diamond audio crossovers wouldn't fit on the doors).
Thanks for everyone's help.

Also, if I'm shorting some wires together, wouldn't that mean that some of the connections would still work? In my case, neither the window or the power mirror work when the door is slammed. Just a thought...

26 gauge? Man, first you need better wire. That's strangling your poor speakers. Second, I really hope you haven't mangled that molex. I can't imagine it's cheap for the dealer to fix that. I'd take apart the plug and make sure all of the pins are still in place and properly aligned. Maybe post some pix if you can. Would be helpful to see what the problem could be. Whatever it ends up being, I hope for you it's not serious.....

The stock wiring is thicker that 26 gauge isn't it? Are you sure the stuff you ran isn't 18 or 20?

It's very odd that everything stops working. I remember running the wires through that Molex piece, it was a PITA. The two sides of the connector came together by pulling up on a clasp until it locked. Are you sure that connector locked all the way shut so there is proper electrical connectivity between both sides? Also, the wire you ran had to be pulled taught so that it didn't create a kink in between the connector.

One more question, does the speaker work when you slam the door? If it does I would guess the connector is not seated properly.
