Default Xenarc Installed

Finally got down to the wire and installed my Xenarc screen. Double side tape and few minutes later, installed. Man what a super easy install.

Heres a pic of the back. I was worried about the connector coming loose so decided to use the cable to push the connector in. In the circle is where I use double side tape to secure the cable from moving. Just bend the cable so that it uses the Dash's side to push the connector in.

I'll be doing that same thing soon.

How about a few more pic's and comments on the install?

Thanks.

Im sittin here trying to figure out what their doin there... I had the touch screen and that brown flat cable up top was connected to the touch screen controller... but you have the cable, and not the controller, odd.... the cable should be attached to the touch screen overlay.

anyway, I hope to get mine soon. more hassle there, but hopefully itll all get figured out. then I can finally have my PC running.

Got mine installed today too!

Sure wish I could say it was easy, but I had a tough time getting the screen in. I don't know if the touch screen makes it harder, or I am just all thumbs. The touch screen is an 1/8" thick piece of glass, with a paper border on the side that touches the screen. I could not find an adhesive that would hold this paper to the screen. Well, I tried 3 anyway, the last being superglue. No luck.

So I basically used strategically placed tie wraps - across the back, and around the sides. Held in firm now.

Happy with result....except that I am having some intermittent loss of video signal. I'm pretty sure it is the end of the vgacable where it attaches to the computer. If i bend it a bit,the picture will come back. Then again, maybe one of my other 9 thumbs is touching the real root of the problem when I am bending the cable.

I just used heavy duty double side tape to hold the touchscreen to the lcd. did the same to hold it in the dash. Works great.

ares:
The controller is there, it's taped to the main board (you see the brown ribbon cable, it from the touchscreen to the controller) It was stuck there when I opened it. Look at Scafremon's pic, its the same on his.

Scafremon:
What power source did you tap into for the screen. I basically cut the power cable for the screen and put an inline fuse holder and an 1amp fuse. Connected it to the head unit ACC ON wire (green one, 1st pin on the left of the big connector) and to the body for ground. I tried to use the head unit's ground, but for some reason it'll turn my radio and my amp on without a key. (also it doesn't give power to the screen)

Scafremon, did your other screen connection fall through, or did you just get impatient?

I connected the screen power to my computer power supply.

Mannishboy:

Basically, it was impatience. It was delayed 2 more months, and I couldn't wait. Plus, I got a good deal on Xenarc touchscreen, so the cost savings of my other plan went away. However, I am going to stay in touch with the LG Phillips distributor, and check out the screen when it does come available, and will post info on it.

I installed my Xenarc last weekend and also connected the HU power to the LCD power but what I'm realizing now is that my ground should have gone to the chassis not to the HU ground like I did. My screen is seeing waves (you know like a slow refresh rate monitor) and I'm 99% sure it's grounding problem. This weekend I'll reground my LCD to the chassis and hopefully it will work better. Other than that my install went smoothly. I connected the PC to the HU and when I watch DVDs it sounds soooo awsome, better than my home system
I also think I need to get the kit to make the screen brighter, because when you watch movies and they have night scenes it's really hard to see even when it's dark outside.

Still got tons of tweaking to do but I love it.

Yeah, its better to connect it to the body, for some strange reason when I grounded it to the HU's ground it would turn on the HU even with out a key ( i think its cause it completes the circuit) How did you connect your PC to the HU? FM Modulator?

I have the Pioneer Premier HU which comes with IPBus, so I got an IPBus to RCA connector and ran RCA from the PC to the HU. I got that HU for that reason exactly. The only bad thing I have to say about this HU is that radio reception sucks big time now for some reason.

This weekend I'll take some pictures and post my setup.

So did any of you guys get the ultra brights with your Xenarc?

If not, any problems seeing it in the daytime? When the sun shines on it?

I did not get the ultrabright, and yes, it is very hard to see in the daylight. I don't think it is as much a brightness issue, as a reflection/glare issue. If I didn't have the touchscreen, I would look into putting a non-glare membrane in front of the screen. If you have touch, then I think the only solution is going to be something sandwiched between the touch-screen glass and the actual LCD screen, or, having the backside of the touch-screen glass treated with something.

For myself, it is definetly an issue that will need to get fixed, or I won't get much daytime use out of the screen.

I have a major problem seeing the LCD during the day, especially when there is a night scene in the movie. This also happens at night, you can see better but the black colors look washed so it's hard to see. I have to play with contrast and stuff to see how things change. I like the LCD, I can see my desktop very well day or night but movies are a different story because of the day/night scenes and color changes all the time. It's all tweaking now....

when you say "non-glare membrane" you are referring to something that would mount over the screen, correct?

would that be a better fix than the ultra-bright option? Or do we need to upgrade to ultra-bright and then add the non-glare membrane?

thanks.

Is there anyway to mount the screen in the stock location, but still keep the silver case intact? I like the silver, and the buttons, so would like to set my screen back into the area, like stock, but with the case. Any room for this?

BTW, to anyone listening to MP3, DVD, or FM/TV via TV card, will talking GPS directions still come thru. In other words, is there going to be a fight for the sound card, or does everything come out correctly, at the same time?

Thanks,

Mark

Sure theres a way to mount the screen with the silver case, question is do you want to cut up all that plastic in the dash?
There is really no point to have the case (beside warranty) if you putting it in the dash, cause you will never see it.

You can play all those at the same time if you want, depending one your card, it should all play at the same time. BUT depending on your processor speed, it might be extremely slow.

I am thinking something that can be placed in front of the screen to reduce glare. Should be fairly inexpensive, but may not be suitable for those with touch-screens. Since I haven't seen the ultrabright in use, I can't say if that would solve the issue by itself (though I doubt it), but it sure couldn't hurt (except maybe your wallet).

well there are non-glare film. the only stuff i've seen in stores are ones for pda's. Depending on the quality and quanties of the film it could be very expensive. I would guess a good quality sheet for the screen would be around $10-$15. could check with 3M.
