My new install....
After changing from my last sound off competition car I needed the sounds!
My last install developed over time to be one big show piece, used hideous amounts of alcantara and didn't leave me too much of a practical car!
This time, I wanted something that sounded amazing, and still allowed me to use the car for cross continent jaunts. But me being difficult, I also still wanted my JL W7 sub and whatever power is needed to run the system.
So the equipment list:-
Alpine CDA-9887R - http://www.alpine-electronics.co.uk/...p?id=cda-9887r
Alpine 6 disc multichanger - http://www.alpine-electronics.co.uk/...d=cddvdchanger
JL Audio C5 6.5" component speakers - http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_c...hp?page_id=233
JL Audio 10W7 - http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s....php?page_id=3
JL Audio 300/2 amplifier for front speakers - http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=436
JL Audio 500/1 amplifier for the sub - http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=439
Caliber competition 2 channel amp to run the rear fill speakers
Alpine iPod control unit
Alpine Bluetooth control unit
Steering wheel control unit
American Industries fascia adaptor
Several packs of Dynamat Xtreme
JL Audio power supply - http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_c...l.php?cat_id=3
JL Audio interconnects - http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_c...l.php?cat_id=1
And lots of fibreglass!
Initially the centre bar with the rear speakers in it was going to be attacked but with the size of the sub and volume of box it needed, this wasn't going to happen. So then it needed some clever thinking from The Sound Gallery to work out how to install it all and still have some boot use...... :headhurt:
So first steps, rip everything out of the car.....

First thing was to take the interior of the car out.
Prepare the car for work.....
Cable needs to be routed.....
And start the Dynamat work on the doors....
With the Dynamat result for the doors looking like this.....
With that done, the attention is turned to the sub. Originally it was going to sit between the seats. Without going mental on the fibreglass and trimming and needing to spend a few £k on extra work for the rest of the install, it was contemplated and discussed and the idea was launched.....
Fibreglass matting to take shape...
And some shaping of the existing polystyrene block starts being done....
At the same time, the mounting rings are made up so the sub can be mounted in an inverted position....
And so the box starts to take shape...
And built up and left to cure and shape in the car over....
And over again....
With the filler helping shape it perfectly to the space, the sub was test mounted....
So, while that is going off, what about the cabling. An amp rack was built to accommodate those listed above.... This also shows the IXOS fuse holder in place.
And then it gets the capacitor added to it, and the Caliber amp....
And it fits quite nicely.....
......behind the drivers seat! :teeth:
Meanwhile the sub box has cured and gets carpeted and fitted....
Up front, the BOSE was ditched, and the American Industries fascia fitted and the Alpine headunit. Full iPod control, bluetooth phone and the steering wheel controls still work.....
And there's a sub tucked away in the boot.....
:teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:
Unfortunately, the best bit I cannot get over in the pictures, is the SOUND. Even though the speakers are still running in, and I expect the midbass to open up a bit, I cannot believe how good it sounds. Ben and the guys at the Sound Gallery set it up with the Imprint and Audessy software, and I have tweaked it a tad, and I am blown away by the sound in such early days. I spent three years setting up my last car and it was not quite as good as this. Whatever your music taste, stick the CD in and it sounds amazing. And it will hit 138db if it needs to!
Hope you like.

Thanks guys. Really wanted it to be a different, not sure if anyone else has done this yet, certainly not in the UK yet.
But it's all ready for judging should it need it!
