S2K Engine Start Button install write-up

A. tap the wire like you did the other one (this allows the car to start with either the key or the button).
B. Cut the wire and make the connection on the starter side and tape up the cut end leading to the connector. (this disables the key from starting the car and makes the button the only way to start it).
can someone explain the difference in these two....i know in A, you either splice into the wire or plug it into the harness, but in B what do you mean by the "starter side"?

Just to bump this thing back up, in the next month or so, I will be finishing my carputer. I just bought a blue push button switch from http://www.ignitedperformance.com/index2.html. It will be integrated into my center console along with a thumb print reader, motorized nav door, touch pad, new stereo, etc.
I will post up a review once I receive the product and get it installed.

I've got an alternate idea for the '06 6MT 350Z which has a different center console and that is this: Make the hazard swith an "Engine Start" button. Relocate the hazard switch to the blank plate next to my heated seat switches using either a TCS or VDC OFF switch. I think I'll tackle this after I move from Florida to Texas in the next couple of weeks.

I took a peek under my shifter trim piece today, only to notice that although the location below the stereo is ideal for a push start, it will not work with an '06. Our hazard switch assembly has a mounting screw right there. I am pissed.
Greg, are you sure your method will work? Not that I am considering it as an option, but since the hazard button is a push-on/push-off, won't it keep the starter circuit closed until it is pushed a second time? One would have to release the clutch a millisecond after pushing the hazard switch or starter would grind due to the constant pulse. Is that correct?

Of course, you're right. I would have to somehow disable the mechanism in the switch to change it from a pushbutton ON/OFF to a momentary "ON" type switch. I haven't disassembled one yet but I'm sure I can do it. As far as using a VDC or TCS switch as the new hazard switch, I would probably use an 03-05 type hazard switch instead and just place it in the blank plate next to my heated seat switches. When I do mods like this, my goal is to keep an OEM flavor. Check out the following link (and post #55) for pics of another project I've been working on (still trying to get it where I want it):

That gauge looks awesome! Your kung-fu is indeed stronger than mine
I just got another idea of how to make this work. Z is currently in hibernation, but in a month or two, i am going to get cracking on that. Will post pics.

Do you know the functions of the three wires coming from the actual switch? (red. yellow, black). I am changing my setup and am going with a different switch and need to see if i can just use the three wires (red, yellow, black) directly to the new switch (I assume that these switches function the same).

Just Installed...
I had ordered my S2K Engine Start Button about a month ago, but hadn't installed it yet since I wasn't sure where I wanted to put it. I wasn't so crazy about the gap it left on those that installed in above the shifter, so I looked for another place. Since the S2K's button is left of the steering wheel, I wanted mine there also...
So that's where I decided to install it. Like everyone has said, it is a really simple install thanks to the great writeup. It took under an hour. The most time was cutting the hole for the button. I wanted it to be as exact as possible and I didn't want to f-up my dash. The one draw back about where I put the button was that I had to go through two levels of plastic dash, the surface one and another about an inch behind it...but it made it even more secure. I didn't have to wedge it with elastic bands behind it since it fit so snug into the dash. Anyway, here are some pics of the finished product...
Again, thanks to all those who posted before me with instructions and how-to's!
