Well color my embarassed. Had you guys not posted it did, I'd have SWORE it didn't lock the wheel. But, before I made a (bigger?) fool of myself after reading those posts, I went to check. IT does. lol

In my defense...

1) I'll be damned but you REALLY have to crank the wheel over to get it to lock.

2) As I said, my last two cars were both Corvettes, and both had electronic column locks (don't get me started) that would lock instantly the second you shut off the ignition.

Now, again my apologies.. back to your regularly scheduled thread already in progress.

Regards.

PS - I still want one of these, anyway.

Yeah, it doesn't kick in right away all the time that's for sure. With my push button start you can start it with the key in any position. Well I left it in the LOCK position, I almost killed myself driving around one day when it all of a sudden locked up.

The only thing that's been wrong with my Z is the, ummm, "loose nut behind the wheel", obviously.

Pride stopped being a factor for me a long time ago. If I shoot off my big mouth and say something stupid, I'm always happy to step up to the plate and admit it. For better or worse. lol

Regards.

Default Update on Altima start/stop button...

Well, due to the fact that I recently started a job with Verizon as a Fios tech support specialist, I'm being forced to work 10 hours a day Monday through Friday and half a day on Saturdays and this will continue through the end of this year. As a consequence of this, I simply have not been able to spend any time on finishing out the revised version. I know that there are a lot of people interested in this mod. For those who might not be aware, KPierson is offering a similar setup that will be available much sooner and in greater quantity than I could ever hope to manage. Not only that, it'll be much better integrated and scalable than my version. Below is his original link on his product(s). Again, I thank everyone for their interest and encouragement. I'm going to continue to develop and work on similar offbeat projects for my 350Z in the future and I'll share whatever I come up with in the appropriate forums:

I realize this is sort of an empty statement, but kudos for chasing this as far as you have to date, and congrats on the new job!

Useless? If you stall on a racetrack and can get to it quicker than turning your keys....

Default Interesting... Woudl like to see the picture

I had to re-engineer the LOCK, ACC, and ON LED's as they were all originally common anode (+), as well as sharing a surface mount 1.8k current-limiting resistor, and I had to make ACC and ON common ground; the LOCK LED is wired seperately because it will get its low or ground signal from the factory alarm system. I had to place a bunch of resistors in series for the LOCK LED and those are hidden in the pigtail. I cut off the original modular plug flush with the bottom of the button (for clearance concerns in the console) and I extended everything out on a 9-pin Molex male pigtail and then finished it off with some heat shrink tubing. This will allow for more mobility when placing the control box, plus I think it just looks better.

I am doing this mod for myself after I was inspired by you.
Any chance you can repost this picture?
Also, how did you modify the board in the switch? did you phase it out minus the button contacts part?

Thanks,

Jack
