Install Guide:Bose, Kenwood DNX7100, PAC ROEM-NIS2, 03 cubby painted, cubby monitor
#51
hey guys,
i'm having problems installing a kenwood dnx8220bt (european version of the 8120) in my (european) '03 nissan 350z using the pac roem-nis2 (us spec) that i ordered from the states.
the unit just stays dead like it doesn't get power.
speclist:
european 350z 2003 with bose system
kenwood dnx8220bt (euro version of 8120)
pac roem-nis2 (ordered from the states)
what i did:
made the pac roem-nis2 wire connections by matching colors with only these tricky ones:
8220 orange/white to roem-nis2 orange
8220 blue/white (unlabeled) to roem-nis2 blue
8220 blue/white (labeled ant con) to roem-nis2 blue/white
8220 cables unused: reverse (purple/white), prk sw (light green), mute (brown), remo.cont (blue/green) and ext.cont (pink/black)
pac roem-nis2 cables unused: red/white, green/red, purple/red, grey/red
connected the 8220 through the pac roem-nis2 to my car without using any of the other connections on the 8220 like grounding (what should i ground?), gps antenne, fm antenne, ipod etc etc. and started car. 8220 stays dead.
possible causes:
overlooking something like a connection or on button
made a wire connection error
pac roem-nis2 doesn't work with european spec 350z
pac roem-nis2 doesn't work with kenwood dnx8220bt
kenwood dnx8220bt is broken
pac roem-nis2 is broken
possible causes that i checked:
radio fuse > bose head unit works fine when i reconnect that
the old wire splits from the previous owner mess somehting up > why would the bose headunit work fine then?
pictures of the three plugs going to the bose headunit (blue split thingies are from a vdo dayton navsystem the previous owner had installed in the cubby which i removed):
plug a
plug b
plug c which isn't used with the 8220
pictures of the wire connections i made and the unused cables:
does anyone see something that could be the problem?

The Avic-D3 does not have a blue/white wire so you dont connect it to anything. So that would make 5 wires from the PAC that are not connected to anything if you are installing a D3.
The Metra harness has almost the same wires that the PAC has except the Metra has the orange/black dimmer and the PAC has the 4 extra speaker wires.
If you look at orbitalpunk wiring picture you will see that he as the blue/white wire 'X' off. That is because there is not another blue/white wire to hook it up to. Be sure to connect both the solid blue ones though.

Question!!! so i have this same setup, BUT i have these remote in/ Remote out.Mcont out wires, but dont see a similar wire to attach it to in the z... what do i do with these and a orange dimmer wire all of which no where to go, but the remote/out/in are important to connect to the amp correct or else it wont work?

EDIT also where does the amp ground go to? just ground it? ive tried setting it all up and the decks not turning on.. i think its because i havent wired the brake connections nor the ampin/out wires to stock amp..

I know I'm late

You should PM someone with a 06+ and ask them what was the work around for this or if it was compatible. I think there are a few people with 06+ in this thread that responded.
Its been awhile since my install but if I remember correctly there was an extra harness needed to get the steering wheel to work.
Here is a quick search on http://www.crutchfield.com/
I am sure if you call them they can tell you what you need.

You do not hook up the black ground from the PAC to the black ground to the head unit. Those need to be grounded to the car.
Check my response above and let me know if you still have problems.

ive rewired it and set the ground wires as ui have shown but still no juice not lighting up. nor is my instrumentation.. my dimmer wire has no use on my new deck and no where to hook up remote in and out

uhohhhh so i have a bigger issue i think. well i was getting no power to my new headunit, so i plugged the stock bose back in, the dials light up and so do my climate control but the unit doesnt turn on, no audio and screen doesnt light up nor does my instrumention

Check your fuses. Chances are if you wired it up wrong a few times than you probably blew a fuse. I blew one when installing my Double Din as well. Check the fuses next to the clutch. The one that I blew was 'Mirror'. Change that one out regardless of whether it looks blown or not(sometimes they dont look blown). When I blew that fuse my radio didnt turn on and my dash did not light up and I was shitting bricks because I thought I really ****ed something up. Replace that fuse and see if that solves your problem.
