DIY - Camera Mount - In Car Footage.
I'm not going to the drift event in march because I'll be at the Drivers Edge event at TWS. I don't wanna beat my car up drifing but I will take it out on a track.
The drift event is getting big now. I bet you will see a bunch of semi-pro drifters out there. Enjoy.

Im about to do this with an aiptek camera, since I dont have the camera yet im assuming I should hold off on getting supplies. Question, how exactly does the camera mount to the mount without screwing in to the unit? I guess thats the only thing that is confusing me.

just tried this, i got everything working, except i have an issue with the cheap tripod i got. It vibrates badly. (it has a part that just moves if you push, to make it vertical.)
But only when i hit a bump. (but its loud enough to drown out my car...)
Going to figure out how to fix that. maybe wrap wire on its end to hold it still.
Thanks for the hint, made for a very enjoyable afternoon.

Hey guys, just came across this thread. My brother bought me a cruise cam mount a few years ago. It's a pretty good design. Check out the pics in case they helps give you guys some ideas. It's probably easy to replicate and the rubber mount seems to help take out vibrations tremendously - or it could be my camera, who knows.

If you want some in car I can upload some videos although I'm not sure how much it'll help since we're all using different cameras.

Thanks for the write up. I did this yesterday and it worked out great. The measurements on the first post provided a great starting point (of course, I lined it up with the headrest before drilling). I spent a total of maybe $14.
Some things I did different:
. Used 1" tube instead of 3/4" - Lowes was out of 3/4" tubes.
. Used 1/4" U bolts and wing-nuts to secure the tube behind the headrest posts, since that was the biggest drill bit I had. I'm able to click the headrest down at the highest notch, and the tube doesn't wiggle at all.
. Used a 1/4-20 bolt through the tube for the camera, along with some washers for spacing.
The height looks good (it could use a little more, I think) and I'm able to get a decent angle by just adjusting the seat back. Best of all, almost no vibration at all.

There's a bit of clacking I think from the camera against the tube. I'll put a bit of felt stickers on there and see what happens.
Thanks for an informative post.

Great DIY.
I made my own, but instead of painting it with a normal paint, I used a rubberized spray paint from Home Depot. I like the rubberized paint so I don't have to worry about scratching up the head rests.
I still need to find end-caps for my mount, but once I have them I will attach them.
Anyways on to the pics.

Very awesome!
i read the first 2 or 3 pages of this but have you guys seen/heard of the gopro cameras?
if not i would check them out, especially the motorsports cameras and personally im a big fan of the wide angle. comes with suction cup mount to put pretty much wherever you want on the car... these are the cameras they use in the big drift events.
