Default interior fuse box

Hey... I was wondering if the z has an interior fuse box? I want to hardwire my v1 radar detector. My friend wires his into his fuse box, and I want to do the same. I cant wire it to my mirror since i have a base and thus no homelink =(

If you wire at the fuse box, PLEASE tap in on the PROTECTED side of the fuse, not the HOT side of the fuse. I would recommend tapping into the switched +12v wire for the headunit. The headunit is easy to remove and will guarantee that your V1 will be protected by a fused circuit.

thanks! why does the ease of removal of the headunit matter? I thought i just introduce some wires into the box and run them up the upholstery?

It matters if you were to remove the headunit to tap into the switched +12v wire in the center stack. This would guarantee you were tapping into a protected switched +12v. If you have a multimeter or similar, you can test out the fuse box and find a switched +12v and decipher which side of the fuse bridge is protected.

When you access the panel down there, the door has the schematic of what each fuse is for.

On my car there were two fuse locations that were not in use and were hot with ignition. So i went out to autozone and bought what they call an "ADD A FUSE/CURCUIT"

These pics are not in the Z, but you get the picture...
works great.

Those work awesome for adding any type of aftermarket electronics. I used one for my interior lighting and HU in my previous ride. Make sure you fill the fuse box with the right size fuse also...check the radar detector for the specs.

thanks for the info. the add a circuit thing looks very useful. I think a new in box v1 comes w/ some sort of adapter/cord/something or other that helps w/ a direct plug in... but i bought mine used. I think i'm going to cut apart a phone cable.

I don't know if the Z has the same, assuming it does. But the power adaptor (cig lighter) thing is ignition hot in the G. Couldn't that just be tapped into to hardwire? After all that is what your using now. Just make the connection internal instead of external.

yes, that works also... and it will be on the protected side too....

its up to the op now to decide what he wants to do.

well, i'm assuming the fusebox is easier to tap into since it'd probably minimize trim removal...

Most likely. I used that add a circuit thing for my radar in my sebring and it worked wonders. Actually had it trigger an ignition hot relay for a bunch of things, may do that again this time.

hmm... took a cursory glance... didnt see the fusebox above the dead pedal. I was rushed for time, and didnt have a chance to look closely. Is it possibly on the right side of the driver's footwell? Im not home this weekend so cant look at it =(. (my car is an 08 base... would that have any impact?)

would the audio fuse be a good fuse to ADD A FUSE/CURCUIT? Also what is meant by hot with ignition and how would i test with multimeter?

I would assume "Hot with ignition" means the radio for instance. It will only power up when the ignition is turned on. Where as your head lights, dome/map lights, horn, and brake lights will work/turn on with out a key in the ignition.

I picked up a cheap dashcam where the "power" chord is just red and black wires, no cigarette adapter.

The camera specs show that it operates at 9-16v. I have the add-a-fuse, and in the past I've hardwired devices but they've all come with cigarette adapters, which convert the power from the cigarette lighter into the proper voltage for the device.

This unit doesn't have a cigarette adapter. Am I still ok to hook the camera up directly to the fuse box? I was planning to tap into an accessory fuse with the add-a-fuse.

Update: I tested it by hooking directly to battery and it worked fine, so I'll just use the add-a-fuse and hook directly to Acc in the interior fuse box

Which fuse would be good to tap into for constant power even when car is off and keys are pulled? Or should i just tap into my power cable coming from my battery to my amplifier?
