If you have a CD changer connector in the back of your head unit, it will work in place of the CD changer.

No it is not a radio. Its much better. Its thousands of hours of uninterrupted music. This is a no brainer. No more loose CD's flying all over your car. Just 1 cartridge with all your music stored and easy to hide almost anywhere in your car.

Everything you want is available except an ipod adapter. But in my humble opinion, the music keg serves the same purpose and works with the head unit seamlessly. Some kenwood head units have an ipod adapter built in. You would have to check your set up. Everything above is still available.

So do I need a kenwood head unit for all of this stuff to interface with or does this all work symbiotically with the stock head unit?

Yes, you will need a Kenwood head unit. The unit I was using has been sold.
