Default Need help with wheels!

Hi everyone. I am looking to put 19" wheels on my new 350z and am having trouble finding something that will match the offset. So I have a few questions in regards to the wheels.

1) Do we have the same offset on our wheels as other markets (that is 30 fronts and 33 rears - touring model)?

2) If anyone else is swapping their wheels over to aftermarket ones, what company wheels are they using (eg ROH, Speedy etc)?

3) For those of you who are swapping over their wheels to either aftermarket alloys or the forged alloys nissan is offering, could you 'pm' me if you are willing to sell your track wheels to me.

I haven't got my car yet... but SOON... I am in Melbourne... I am not sure what is the price that dealer will offer me for trade in though! But if you are in Melbourne and CONFIRM that you want the track wheels (no tyres), I THINK I should be able to sell them to you rather than trading the original wheels in.... they haven't given me a quote on the original wheels yet... but I will DEFINITELY buy those Ray's forged wheels from the dealer!

cheers,

richie

Same here, I will be taking delivery on the 18th Feb of a DB Track. I have ordered the Rays, I am also upgrading the tyres so I will have a complete set available. I belive the Track 18" are around $2500 over the counter, I will try and find out what would be a fair price for the tyres & rims both will be brand new.

PM me if your interested.

Default Thanks for your response

Thanks Z350Lover and ZZZ-35 for your response.

I will be taking delivery of the car shortly and am currently discussing with the dealer the swap over price of the Rays from my 17". If this is exhorbitant I will contact you again (I am also in Melbourne).

Did you guys also consider going to aftermarket wheels in your serch for improving the looks of the car. We are having difficulty finding wheels that will fit the car (mainly an offset issue) in 18" and 19".

My dealer just told me that the Rays wheels will not be around 4K anymore.... they are more likely to be around 5 something K without the tyres!!! So better check it out with your dealer!

ZZZ-35:

Have you written the contract down to swap the wheels?? If you have, then I think they can not be able to back off their words on their trade in price!

Good luck everyone!

cheers,

richie

Just another Nissan Aust. cockup, how are we surpose to deal with this total lack of professionalism on there part, I should not even have to be upgrading to Rays anyway it should have been part of the Track package as we where led to believe. Now they can't even get the pricing right.

A deal, is a deal.

Totally Fustrated

Thanks both Z350Lover and ZZZ-35 for your offers.

Now that I have got the car I think that I will be sticking to the 17" for a while and look at aftermarket wheels down the track.

I got a quote from my Nissan dealership to fit the Rays on my car and almost feel off the seat (wheels and tyres). Furthermore, because they are not offering to buy the 17" back off me, and no one else wants the 17's, I must pay the full price of the Rays and tyres if i want to get them.

In relation to what you were saying about the cost of the Rays going up, my dealership is still selling the alloys (without the tyres) for 4k.

I was also told some more information, which I dont know if you guys can clarify. (see here first: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=18920)
In relation to that extra bolt, I was told that if I remove it - which would need to happen to fit aftermarket wheels - that I would be voiding my warranty. Anybody heard anything about this?

Thanks in advance,

Zdster

Zdster:

If you want the original 18" wheels (not the Ray's one), I can sell them to you for 1000 dollars because they are the trade in price for me at the dealership... and if you are going for those wheels, you might be looking at around 2K+! Give me your answer by Friday, because I am getting my car on Friday!

cheers,

richie

ps. apparently... the wheels are around 4.5K including GST for the Ray's.... Nissan quoted me wrongly! My appology for the wrong info given earlier!

The wheel locator can be safely be removed. Its there so the wheels get replaced in the same position each time, they balance the wheels in on the car in Japan also it helps to hold the wheel in place when replacing the wheel bolts.

Thanks all to the responses to this thread.

Z350Lover,
Thanks for your offer on the wheels, but I think that I will pass up the offer at this time as I think that I will purchase some aftermarket wheels at a later date. Furthermore I might also purchase Sat. Nav. or put in a dvd player/ tuner. Again thanks for the offer and dont worry about the worng info.

ZZZ-35,
In relation to the information provided about removing the bolt (wheel locator), do you know if this would affect the warranty on my Z?
I have also PM you on another matter.

ZZZ-35:

I go with the aftermarket one... well... Nissan does the job for me... so the warranty issue will not be the problem (and also they will install it before I take delivery)! They suggest me to go for that since those sensors can be colour coded unlike the one that Nissan provides! Also the one that nissan has only has 2 sensor points and the one that I have has 4 sensors instead!

Nissan factory sensor will cost around 1100 dollars including installation.... I paid for my aftermarket one at the price of 950 (originally).... since it is in package, including Rays wheels and other things... so they actually give me a cheaper price all together!

I think it is necessary to install the sensors because the rear visibility of the Z car might be poor.... but I am not too sure on that yet.... I just got used to have those sensors on my bmw m3, so I don't mind to have them here on the Z!

Zdster:

No problem mate, then I will just trade those wheels in since I don't need those anyway, got the better and lighter ones! Also about the DVD player.... wanna get the original 350Z DVD player together????? THen we can set up a group buy mate! hehehe

Cheers,

richie

Not a bad idea, if Nissan would go for it. However I was quoted by my dealer to put in sat nav and a screen $5000. So then I went to Alpine and found a screen TME-M760 'http://www.alpine.com.au/active_pages/audiovisual_page.asp' which others on this site have talked about and then found a vdo sat nav unit and the grand total was WAY less than what my dealer quoted me.

Good idea though

True... those after market ones are much cheaper... but just the matter of the perfect fit into that small compartment! I am sure that the factory one will fit in nicely! But here comes the problem.. we might not be able to use the Sat. Nav system until later on since Aussie Sat. Nav is running on the CD base..... heard that we cannot be able to run it here with the factory one.... ?!

My 1st nissan dealer told me that there is no option at all for the TV screen though... your dealer is much more informative... even gave you a quote on that! That's why I changed to another dealership! hehehe....

cheers,

richie

From what I have been reading here, I believe that there only requires 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch removed to have the screen fit perfectly.

In relation to the spoiler and front lip that you are putting on, are you doing that yourself or are you getting the dealer to do it for you? Would love to see the finished product.

Zdster:

Just read on the other post.. just posted some pics of the lip that I am getting in Carbon Fibre!

My Veilside dealer will fit the CF lip for me without any problem... since I don't need to paint it! Just bolt on straight away! as for the nismo rear wing... well... I will fit it else where... depends on where I get it painted! but shouldn't be a big problem here!

cheers,

richie

Hi everyone, well my dealer says the same as all the others about Rays wheels. So I am begining to wonder if the cost is worth the performance gain.
How much benefit do you think adding Rays Wheels would add?
Would you feel the difference between standard 18 and Rays?

Yeah... you will definitely feel some differences mate! It is all due to the momentum that the weight of the wheels is counted in...etc... I read it somewhere... forgot about it... even 1 kg will be quite a lot already! and somehow one Ray's wheel is about 3 to 4 kg lighter, isn't it? (Correct me if I am wrong)... that means the running wheels will have less stress to transfer the power!

I know this because I had a very light weight wheels on my m3 compare to the standard m3 wheels... the power could be felt STRAIGHT away!!!

And I went for Ray's wheels because I got quote on the original Volk Racing Ray's wheels (8.5J front and 9.5J rear all in 18") for around 1500 PER WHEEL!!! and to get the same benefit... I chose to go for the standard nissan Rays and cannot be bother to search around for the new set of wheels!

cheers,

richie

I can't see removing a locator pin causing any structural weakness in the bearing housing, if the alloy wheels and tyres you purchase are to the Australian design rules there should be no probs.

I have responded to your PM.
