Default Spare Wheels - A waste of time?

Who still has their spare wheel stored in the car?

The damn thing's pretty useless and I'd be concerned about driving even a couple of K's with it on if I got a flat.

I've noticed that a lot of people are leaving them out now, I suppose as a weight saver. What's the consensus, has anyone had to use it yet?

Removing it would be a bad idea just to save a little weight - You'll be kicking yourself when you get a flat.

I went without a spare in the MX-5 for 7 years. Replaced it with one of those fix a falt cans and my NRMA membership. Never had to use either.

Right now I don't have a jack so I guess the spare is pointless anyway.

The can option is one I used to use, I think the product was something German called Zush or something like that. It pumped a fast hardening rubber foam into the tyre and formed a seal over the hole. I once ran a car on the temporary fix for three years! I haven't seen that sort of product for a while, but then I haven't looked either.

Mine has been out since I got the car. I've had a carpet in blue custom made to fit and i've never looked back. Carry a cannister for small leaks or I will use RAC. Wheel is useless anyway. The psace is great - just about doubles the boot size.

Matt, dont worry about it. Apparently there is some "lug on the hub" you need to do something with. I havent been bothered checking it myself.

Yea, had a sidewall puncture form a screw recently. Used the spare for a couple of days while the tire guys sourced a newby for me. Turns out there was only 8 of these replacements in all of Victoria! Don't you guys all go gettin' punctures at the same time!!!

The spare was fine. Drove on it for a few days wiyth no hassels - although I don't recommend turning off the traction control.

HARRY - did you resolve the spare problem?

Read on another forum that there's a different spare for the Brembo/non-Brembo models.

See "350Zmotoring.com" and go to "specifications"

Wonder if you got the wrong wheel?

LUKE,

I havent investigated it any further other than talking to my friendly Nissan chappy who said some ***** about a "lug on the hub".

I cant be farked taking the wheel off again. If I ever get a flat Ill just ring some fugger and get him to come and fix it.

PS - is that your bog red they're raffling off over at Kotara Fair?

Knew you weren't happy with the colour, but surely you could've
traded it in?

Funny you should mention that Frosty. I've seen a few red ones being raffled off down here as well in various shopping centres. Guess if you can't sell them...
