350z Owner has his first Race Car FOR SALE
Folks,
If you want to get into Track work, but don’t want to risk your $70,000 Nissan 350Z this is what I did before I did, in fact, step up to Sprinting my 350Z Track.
Two years ago I wanted to get into some safe motor sport activity that my 14 year old son and myself could do together. You know, that father son bonding stuff. The aim was to find something we both wanted to do rather than something one of us wanted to do and the other one had to go along because they had to.
We thought we knew a little about cars, but Sprinting was new to us and we wanted to buy something that was already done (as we did not have the knowledge or experience at the time) and we needed a low entry point so if we smashed the car it was not the end of the world for us.
Bingo. We went to Mallala and guess what. An Alfa Romeo, For Sale and all done and ready to go and under $10,000.
Se we bought it, did our apprenticeship in Sprinting, had some driving instruction from Gary Baxter (V8 Brut Ute and Track Skill fame), started slow, then got better and faster, then did some upgrades and ran the car faster than any previous owner. We shared the car and loved it so much we wanted to go faster and have a car each.
Hence the bigger dollars in the 350Z Track and Holden SS V8 Ute.
So now the Alfa Romeo Alfetta, a Class Winning Car with it all done is For Sale.

Sorry Folks,
I could not get the Car Sales link to come out in full. It will work if you capture the whole thing or from the main page go, private seller cars, select Alfa Romeo and South Australia and you find pictures and a detailed description of the car modifications.
or click on the link below for a summary

Yes, that is a good idea. There are even RX7s (ie. older ones) that can be had for around $7000 and they return 1:50s around Phillip Island (this is incredibly quick if 1:50 does not mean much to anyone).
Cheap and cheap to maintain ... just not road legal.

RX7's are nice cars. I owned one from new years ago before children and wife. I even tried to buy one for my son late last year to drive to school and all I could locate were examples that had been to hell and back and worked on by kids who were rough and sloppy mechanics.
I have seen some race prepared examples that need to be trailered to the track but nothing near $7,000. More like $18,000 upwards.
The Alfa Club in all states offer great support and assistance to fellow sprinters and that was definitely a contributing factor in the purchase of the Alfetta. Being alone in a brand X car was no where near as appealing when we were starting out.
The costs of running the Alfetta on the track are around 1/5th of the 350Z. Besides I kinda like the idea of an Italian Love Affair (with cars of course!)
