Angry Got badged!

Some stupid dumb **** tried to take the Z badge off the back of my car but was unsuccessful. They did however manage to break the Z badge leaving 2/3 of it on the car, luckily there was no damage to the paint work.

Now to prevent further potential badging, how do i take the rest of it off safely? Anyone got ideas?

Thats some bad luck.

On my last car, when I had the badges taken off, some were held in place with little rods that go through the panel, and when you remove the badge it leaves two little wholes.

You might be better off going to the panel beaters and getting them to remove and then fill the holes with putty, or plastic weld or weld depending on which panel or material.

Only the front one on my last car had this problem, though the back one did need polishing after it was removed because it was held in place with glue which left a mark.

Aplsilon de-badges his cars(not the Z yet though), he may have some useful info when he reads this post.

And like magic he appears

Murray is right about the posts. If it's the one on the hatch that I think it is I'm fairly certain it has two posts that go through the metal as well as double sided tape.

Usually you can get away with leaving the car in hot sun for a few hours to soften the tape but if you want to speed it along you can use a hairdrier (some say a heat gun but I'd worry about peeling the paint). You can usually get it off by running fishing line down the back to cut/seperate the tape but if it's stubborn pry it off with a cloth covered butter knife or screwdriver. Obviously be very careful. The pins you have to break but they're usually easy.

To clean up the residue the tape will leave behind I just use metho and a soft cloth. You must wash it well and rewax after though.

I'd just take it to a panel beater and have them remove it, fill the holes and repaint as Murray suggested. Can't happen again if the badges aren't there.

Yeah the Z on the hatch is what was broken in the badging attempt. If it has two posts that go through the metal that would suck big time, i'd rather just replace the badge in that case.

I also rang Nissan and got a price for just the Z badge on the hatch, comes in at about $55. The guy on the phone said it was just double sided tape that kept it there so maybe i'll try remove the badge on the weekend and see what's going on underneath.

Sorry, I was actually thinking about the big hamburger when I posted earlier. If it's the 350Z badge then yes I believe it's just tape.

Let us know what you find out. The holes on the big badges are one of the reasons I haven't done mine yet, I can't be bothered spending the money for the filling and painting. I believe the Z badges on the sides also have holes under them.

I hate fuggers that debadge cars. Many years ago I had an Alfa Romeo and it was always getting debadged.

I caught a bloke two-bobbing a new Ford Bronco many years ago.

I belted him (and I do mean BELTED) and took an action for the $2200 repair bill.

He sued me for assault occasioning actual bodily . . . etc.

I got $2200 plus some costs - still (15 years) haven't seen a brass rahzoo 'caus he's dissoed,

On the assault thing - 1 night in the can, $5000 fine and 2-year good behaviour. OH! - and 1300 in his costs.

MOTTO - if you catch them - wait till it's a bit private like just around the corner and do 'em hard enouge that they got no words left in 'em!!!!!

FUGGEN.

Should replace them with the Z ones - easy to put on, just make sure you line em up right as they dont come with the pegs

As it was hot in Melbourne yesterday and my car was unfortunately in the sun all day, i thought it was a perfect time to take the 350Z badge off the rear hatch. They came off not a problem, just needed to be careful as to not scratch the paint work.

Once i took the badges off, a little cleaning and then some polish. Done! I'll take a pic and post next week.

Thats horrible luck.

I have run through this scenario before though and would have acted the same way you did. But now I know the possible consequences i'll have to re think my possible future actions.

Frosty - If I catch someone debadging my Z, I'll belt them and pretend it's not my car. Leave the scene of the crime and come back later to avoid the grievous bodily harm / manslaughter charges. I hope you didn't pay the fine like the other fugger.
Replacing a Nissan badge with a Z badge (does look good) would make the car a greater target for debadgers IMO.

Belt em from behind so they never see you, problem solved. They don't deserve any better IMO.

I've never understood this sort of behaviour. My first car was a Gemini, piece of junk and looked it to. Despite this I came back to it one day to find someone had keyed the length of the passenger side down to bare metal. Guess it's not only nice cars they target.

I was referring mostly to mine in particular. Not a bad car really in their day IMO. I ended up selling it to my sister and the motor died 2 weeks later. Just got out of that one in time

What'd she expect for $300. I think I ended up fixing it. Can't really recall now, it was some time ago. I do remember she didn't keep it long. Thing had a list of problems as long as your arm but it was cheap and it beat walking.
