About the ECU for our Zed from Japan
I have spoken to some of my friends regarding to the ECUs from Japan.... such as Apexi Power FC, HKS F-Con.... etc. which are tuned for their octane level of 110 or so... but somehow the fuel mapping can still be used for all the australian spec. Japanese cars (although they are deisgned for the JDM) without any problem but gainning so much HP...
I seriously don't understand why those cars with japanese after market electronics will not have any problem running around on the street while the electronics are not designed or tuned to suit our fuel...
Also for some japanese import cars, such as GTR, Silivia and supra, do they get to be "de-tuned" to suit our lower octane fuel at all??? I don't really think so, right?! else it will definitely incurr quite alot of costs though to meet the perfect australian compliance. And they are running perfectly fine on the streets with our poor level fuel... that's what I don't get as well...
Or I am wrong with this whole thing? I just don't understand this point so far after so many discussions on the chip/ECU here...
Also I have dealt with PowerChip personally before... when I installed powerchip in my bimmer, they needed to download or wait for the "program" to be transmitted from the UK to reflash my ECU and am wondering about the same question once again... do they use the same octane level fuel over there too?
cheers,

OH.. and I, personally know quite a lot of Melbourne Japanese after market parts distributors and they told me that there has not yet had any problem running the electronics settings at all here although those electronics are primarily designed for JDM.... STRANGE....

I spoke to those tuners, they said that there aren't much different at all if you use the octane booster.. they suggested their customers to do so as well... but at the end, those customers don't even use them and run the cars as they are without any problem.... that's where I got confused!

Apexi do not have a Power FC stand alone for the 350Z, but had a piggyback unit at last months Tokyo Auto Salon called a P-NBC, There was very little imformation & I dont beleive it has been released yet.
HKS do not list the F-Con yet for the Z only a harness adapter & when I tried to buy one the response was, Not available yet.
I dont beleive there is any difference beetween JDM & OZ ECU's except the 180kph speed limit.
My car is a JDM spec car & when it 1st went on the dyno only made from memory mid 140'skw at the wheels on Optimax.
As Zuff said the knock sensor plays a big part

So Nathan.... does it mean that I can just buy a nismo ECM(ECU) and put that into my zed without any problem as there is no difference between Oz ECU and JDM ECU? because I am looking into that and would like to get more experienced suggestions and opinions on this.
thanks for your help!

ps. Nathan, is it possible for you to give me your business contact number so I can be able to get your suggestions straight away?

oH... btw.... when I was mentioning about Apexi Power FC or HKS F-Con.... I was referring to other Japanese performance cars here in Australia (Oz Spec. Japanese model, such as WRX, Silvia, Mr2...etc), not referring to the 350z!
Sorry for the misunderstanding!
