Default Bose follow-up

Copies of e-mails received from Bose.

Sept 2 03
"Bose Corporation has acknowledged the factory installed system is not performing to specification in the 2003 Nissan 350Z. We have been working with Nissan Motor Corporation to resolve the issue".
We apologise . . . .

" . . . . it is our understanding that Nissan is contacting individuals by VIN. The Nissan Dealer has two Technical Service Bulletins related to the system performance issues in the 350Z. Please contact your local Nissan Dealer to determine which one applies to your vehicle.
If the Nissan dealer is unable to assist please let me know.

Last time I contacted a local dealer re the Bose fixes I received the standard "Huh? Bose? What? Fix something? There isn't a problem. You never spoke to us." type response.

I'd love a fix to simply turn off the Audio pilot and I could live with the rest but there's no way I'm holding my breath.

EDIT: BTW anytime someone asks me what I think about the car the Bose and the poor service from Nissan are the first things I say. If Nissan doesn't want to stand by their products I make sure anyone who wants to know my opinion knows exactly how I feel.

Whats problems are you having with the BOSE system?

Whats audio pilot?

Is that something which controls the volume based on engine noise etc?

That's exactly what audio pilot is. Supposed to adjust things to cancel out surrounding noise. The engineers at Bose are clearly deaf as it doesn't work.

Other than that I find the bass either non existent at the lower settings or boomy and ill defined at the higher settings. Something the latest TSB apparently helps greatly.

It's that POS that keeps fighting you over the volume in the cabin.

POS = piece of sh!te FYI

Every time I think of Nissan I think of the word...." NEVER" As in NEVER again! As in NEVER service at a dealer. As in they NEVER follow up complaints.

As Frosty puts it...FFFFFFF<blank>kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

I thought it might have been that, I have noticed the volume drop at random occasions, but shrugged it off.

So should I ring Nissan and find out if my model should be repaired? Is this what everyone else has done.

That's the thing. Nissan won't replace it. They claim they have no knowledge of the new TSB (or any of the TSBs) that's been issued in the US. IMO they have no interest in doing anything other than making the initial sale, certainly not something that won't make them a $

The first thing I did to the car was to "disarm" the farking audio pilot. It gave me the ****** something fierce! I don't really have a problem with the stereo, it seems OK to me, just drive faster and you dont need it!

As always

You can disable it by unplugging the mic and sticking a resistor in. It then only sees one value and so doesn't try to adjust anything.

I think the original thread was something like $0.20 Bose fix.

Muz, it's very easy. Simply undo about 6 screws under your steering wheel housing and dash, unplug the audio pilot and stick a 5cent resistor in, tape it up and put it all back together. Takes about 10 minutes!

As always

Oh well at least there is a fix for it!

Has anyone tried contacting head nissan, not just a dealership?

And see what they say about it? I tried calling then but they all left 15min ago at 5.

No, it was too difficult a procedure for me I looked and I swear the places that are supposed to have screws don't on my car. I'll get around to having another look some day.

Nah! the auto thingo is the least of the problems.

You all must be tone deaf or something!

The $50 sound system in my Ford Exploder (Spell is correct)
is a sweeter sound.

My cd's sound ***** on it, the radio a bit better, but haven't
you noticed the "rowdy" "harsh" "screechy" NOISE (not music)
that emanates from the bloody thing?

USA had all theirs upgraded - Bose to their credit have acknowledged the problem - but it seems Nisshit doesn't want
to do the work.

The TSB numbers are even published on the Nisshit home site -
but good old Oz can't work it out.

Same as for us with the tyre feathering problem:
I was told by their customer "service" man Lance Puche (pronounced puke I would reckon) - "must have hit a pothole - Nissan won't be interested"! Even referred him to the TSB's to no avail.

Perhaps we should all draft a letter as a group outlining our issues, the fact resolutions have been provided in other markets, sign it and send it to Nissan Aust, Bose Aust, NRMA, Motor and Wheels mags perhaps even the MTA. Any other organisations or publications? Worth a shot?

Really dissapointed in the Bose system - mid/high frequency distortion at moderate/loud levels and the bass is crap. With a sub, six speakers and the Bose name its just not good enough.

Add my name to the letter.

I had the amp replaced. It still sucks. It has more clarity but has no low end and no real high end. It is just your average sounding stock system that looks good stock and has the in dash 6 changer. A big dissappointment.
