loud ticking noise after fixing grinding gears
What do you guys think,
After 10 000 kmon my car its started grinding terribly into 3rd gear. I took it to nissan and they fixed the problem replacing a number of parts. After this they told me that te gearbox would be very stiff for a few thousand miles (which it has been) and that it would loosen up. BUT, recently there is a loud ticking noise that is only there when the clutch is out. As soon as you press it in again the noise dissapears.
I took the car to nissan in randwick today and they told me to drive the car for 10 000 more kilometmiles and they would re-asses the noise again then. So basicaly, what they are telling me what to do is drive a car with a problem with it for another year and ONLY then they would re-asses it.
Sounds like a load of **** to me and dont know what to do.
Does anyone have any idea what could be gooing on?

I've taken my car to Randwick Nissan and posted a review about them once... try a search!
In short - a bunch of idiots!
Sorry to hear your car is on the blink. I can only recommend the dealer a purchased the car from but they are in Goulburn. They treated me like royalty but then again the owner is a friend of a friend.
I recommend you NOT wait 10k and get a new gearbox asap. Go to a new dealer and kick up a stink.

I do agree with zuff....
It sounds like something has already gone wrong again in your tranny... or even the installation was bad while they were putting flywheel and the clutch back... it sounds like Tranny might be good, but not the clutch and the flywheel though...
BTW Zuff, how do you like the new flywheel?! hope you are enjoying it!

Just got off the phone with them again to tell them again. After another arguement they claim that the new parts are still new and hvae to mesh together which can only be done by driving. I asked him how come when i bought the car with new parts there was no noise and no meshing required.

Thanks Ottonove I reckon that is best thing to do right now because they are getting very irritated with me and the more i ask them to take out the gearbox the less helpful they get. If i ask them to do that they will probably think twice about letting me drive out of there with out them fixing the clearly obvious problem with the car.
Its not even about the safety issue. It is bloody irritating to have the noise constantly in my ear. AND it means that there is obviously something not right which pisses me off.

Get an NRMA report and bang that onto nisshit.
Their reports are considered expert and are admissable evidence in court.
Also Consumer Affairs is available to you at no cost, BUT YOU MUST HAVE WRITTEN EVIDENCE from the right people.
And they mest be available to give evidence in either of the forums mentioned.
Tip - don't tell 'em that the report is for legal action, because they won't want to spend the day in a hearing. NRMA is the exception to this, and there's other professionals that specialise in this type of situation.
For now, rock up to nisshit with a favourable NRMA report and I reckon nisshit will ****!.

MM - you need to join the NRMA and the contact their technical department - same mob that do pre-purchase inspections when you're buying second-hand. I estimate that you'll be up for a couple of hundred all-up. Well worth it if it gets you results - might come to nothing and in that case you can be happy!

As well as trying another dealer and getting a report from NRMA, write a letter to the CEO of Randwick Nissan advising him of the problems with the car. Be courteous and outline the initial problem and what his service department has done to attempt to rectify the issue. Then in the next parragraph inform him that you are not satisfied with the repair as it is making a horrible noise and a repaired box would not do that (like a new car as you stated). Then finish off by advising that in the event of an accident cause by the faulty box, you will pursue Randwick Nissan for all cost including repairs, medical expenses, loss of income and nervous shock that may be sustained by either yourself or your passanger.
If you have the NRMA report done and it indicates a fault, send a copy of it with the letter.
If that doesn't get any action, then I'm afraid nothing will.
Last resort is to try Nissan Oz with a letter of complaint.
Even if you don't get a positive outcome in the short term, the letter will be a permanent record that there is something wrong with the box and you could refer to it in years to come if the problem reapears then so that you can get work completed at no charge to you.
