Default Plenum and Cats VS CAMS

Hey all,
just wondering which mods i should do first in terms of gaining overall increases in HP.
Should i go with getting the cats and plenum at the same time or should i get cams first.
The car is stock except for cat-back exhaust and pop charger
thanks

It's either how much u want to pay for the Labour. Cams is the most expensive interm of the item and Labour and Time.

So all your choice.

Really, i was naware of that. I simply though that cams would be the same price as cat and plenum combo
in that case maybe i should go with the cats and plenum???

Cats and plenum I'd say 3 hours tops to install (with use of a hoist). Cams apparently 10 hours for someone who knows what they're doing.

Cams tend to have most if not all of their gain at the top end and possibly even a loss down low. The plenum and cats would give a more consistant gain.

Oh btw. i remembered sportcompact (i think) made a project on their Z. They Installed the Nismo cam and the Only benefit of the Hp gain is after 5500 RPM above. I seen this on Dyno. So it's pointless if you are using it just driving in the City IMO.
But i'm not sure what other Aftermarket Cam will make.

If you do the cam, you'll prolly need to upgrade the ECU as well, otherwise its not that much of a gain if using factory prog

Jacko used a Xede piggyback, which is what we are using on our race car.
Be patient, a Techtom unit has been imported into Australia (thats the unit Technosquare use) but it will take some time to get to grips with the correct reflashing maps.
Our ECU is a very hard unit to decipher & even after 1 year of constant use by Technosquare there is still not universal satisfaction with there reflashing.

With regards to camshafts, they will definatly give you the most power increase in an otherwise stock motor, but at by far the most cost.

Take one look at the engine manual and you will see $1000 for a cam install is good value - Its not any easy job.
Looking at the manual suggests that the cam clearances may need to be redone as well(?) given that there are only sized replacement buckets this could add to the cost.

It adds hugely to the cost, each cam bucket is over $50 each & Nissan Aust carry very little stock.
I now only keep the thickest ones in stock & grind them to size to get the correct clearance

Given the cost and fact Nissan doesn't keep stock locally anyway have you considered ordering from the US or Japan? Sure you'd have to plan ahead but I wouldn't be surprised if that $50 part was $10 and always in stock in other markets.

Obviously your solution works but you may be able to cut costs further. Then again I suppose you're not doing all that many cam installs.

Unfortunately Matt you can't plan ahead as you have to install the cams, check your clearances then add or subtract to get the right bucket to do the job.
Odds on Nissan does not have the right size in stock in Oz so theres a minimum 10 day wait.

I know. I was suggesting that if you were installing a decent number of cams as a shop you could order from OS and hold stock of all available sizes and that it may be cheaper than buying locally.
