Wow that works out at .94litres of oil per 1600km's and they say thats acceptable, do you have any idea what was it before you had the SC fitted.

Thanks David
I didn't really track it, but it was probably about 1/3rd of that. There was always a little less oil in the drain bucket, but not significant.

Driving into work today and the red oil warning light came on as I drove up the driveway, it scared the bejeezus out of me, never seen it before.

I let the oil drain down and checked the ridiculous dipstick and low and behold the oil level barely registered on the stick!!

I went straight down to the local Repco and bought 5 litres but only put 2.5 in just to make sure I didn't overfill it. This managed to bring it up to midway between the H and L markers.

It's only been 8500 since my last oil change and I know that 4.5-4.7 litres went in. Nissan tell me that yes this is indeed expected and if I'd read my manual it does say that in between top-ups will be required (manual? I don't need no steeekin' manual!). To drop 2 litres per 10k is within tolerances and is mostly lost because of the PCV valve (I think someone said that previously).

One interesting piece of info was that fouled PCV valves can increase oil consumption. Some recommend replacing the valve every 15000-20000k. This would seem to be pertinent considering Dave's and my excess usage was only noticable since we got to above 30000k.

Anyone checked or needed to replace the PCV valve yet?

this is weird. my car already done 5500km since my 10000km service and hasn't lost a single drop of oil. ie. still on the Maximum line.

Or is it i'm bad on judging how much Engine oil i have lost?

If it is a PCV problem you may not see it as you've only done 15000k and it may still be running clean. Of course I'm not saying this is definetely a PCV issue and I'll happily stand corrected from some of the more knowledgable members of the crew.

I'm not even sure where our PCV sits, anyone know?

At the moment I'm doing a 5000k oil consumpion test as instructed by Nissan and my dealer, I'm having to check in at 1000k's at the dealer to check the level and usage and this is pissing me off, I've never had an engine use this much oil before not even my 1978 1275 LS Mini use this much oil.
