Default Koni question

I'm looking into getting some Konis and wanted to get some info on the double adjustables as compaired to the singles. I can't really find much about them so if someone could shoot me a website where I can look into these that would be great.

Tomsn16 (Carter Thompson) helped develop the Koni SA for the 350Z. He is running DA Konis now. I am sure he can answer your questions.

You might want to check out the Summer '04 issue of Sport Z for the Koni design and install article. The most important question to consider with double adjustables is do you have the experience and knowledge to utilize their full potential? Depending on the application, the single adjustable Sport Konis work just as well and are less confusing...

There's also some contact names and info from Koni in the Sport Z article that you might find helpful.

I did eventually find some material on the double adjustables and am pretty sure they would be a little over my head from where I stand now. I am more than likely just going to go with the the regular SA shocks at the moment. I have also read that the single adjustables can be converted to double adjustables but was not sure of the legitamacy of this. I read this somewhere on the TrueChoice website but the wording was a bit ambigous. Can anybody confirm this?

TrueChoice can modify any Koni to double- and externally-adjustable. They did this for a friend of mine's Supra. It's not cheap, but they do a great job. They can also change shock valving for you if you don't like what Koni chose.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if its cheaper than the double adjustables to rebuild them to that standard?

Besides Truechoice, I confirmed with Koni that they can do this SA to DA conversion as well. During my research on the Sport Z Koni article, the engineer originally responsible for the 8241 application mentioned that the cost for this type of conversion was in the neighborhood of $700...

I originally wanted to get DA this year but decided not to when I was quoted 1800 for them valved the way I wanted, and a 6 week wait.

I would get the SA and use them for a year and see if you need more. I've been auto-xing for a long time and I got to tell you that the reason I'm not a national champion has nothing to do with the adjustability of my konis.

My pal had his Konis rebuilt many years ago, so even if I knew how much he paid it wouldn't be valid any more. I'll bet that modifying SA shocks to DA would cost more than DA from the factory. Buying some SA and using them for a while sounds like a good idea, del105. That way you can save up in case you want to change.

Give True Choice a call and ask them directly:
(USA and Canada), 1/800-388-8783 and showroom is staffed from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (eastern time USA).

Now I recall that my friend did call Koni and ask, but True Choice could do them faster and cheaper. That's vague memory, so don't count on it too much.

Latest info I have is that Koni will be making DA's for the 350Z in the next 1-2 months. They will be marketed by TC Kline Racing. If interested call them at 614-771-7744 or call Koni if you prefer.
