Default Porche Club HPDE Blackhawk Pics/Vids

The racing boards have been a little slow lately so I thought I'd post some pics and vids up of a recent PCA event at Blackhawk in Rockton, Illinois. This was one of the best events I've been to. Very well run and very liberal passing rules!! Its pasted from our local Chicago board. Enjoy...

Great event guys! We need more Z's though!! Here's a couple of pics. I think I'm going to be sweating for a week after this one. It was a little toasty.

Very nice Z turn out. Highlights/Lowlights:

Benny spun out after seeing a critter on the track!!! He had to remove some debris from his car, but he and his car came through without a scratch.

Brian got the long distance travel award and did astonishingly well on a new track he's never driven before keeping up with B.F. Jack. And was very understanding about me bringing the wrong DVD after like two months of delays. I promise its coming Brian.

Black Flag Jack only got a partial black flag this time. He got a meatball for having his hood up. This was captured on film! He also led a conga line of Z's through the Porsche pack. Way to show us how its done! That was the most fun I've had in a car since I was 16!! Toooomuuchh fun!

I (Zillinois) set a new personal best time 1:23.11 and tested out a new videologger system. I have a video if someone can host it. I also ran for the first time in the nearly open passing group - B1. Made my first corner pass! Very energizing!!

Bruce (Enthuz) tried out his new tires and tried hustling some fire extinquishers to the Porsche guys!! It was fun watching the pro salesman in action. ;-)

A Porsche had a throttle stick wide open coming into turn one. He had the cool head to turn off the ignition, but not before he locked it up pretty good trying to slow the beast down. My wife got a great shot of the front and rear tires smoldering.

We missed two of the regulars Dax (Redline350Z) and Bruce (StaticCling).

The crew at "The Farm"

Tech

Me in Tech. I think I won the goofy hat award. ops:

Pits

B.F. Jack! What's wrong with this picture??

Me (Zslinger) in the pimpmobile.

BruceC (Enthuz) on the binders! Or is that lip providing phenomenal downforce??

Benny. No squirrels on the track yet!

Brian (Redfoot) drove 8 hours to get here!! Then blazed on the track!

Front & rear tires smoldering!! Would you have the cool to turn the ignition off at the end of the main straight going 130ish??

Random Porsche

Random Porsche. You know your wing is ricey when...?

Videos

I counted 15 cars that passed me or that I passed in this first 20 minute session!! I was a little freaked out.

Here's what its like to get sh*tstomped!! I forgot you don't have to lift for a car that has 150 more hp! ops:

Crunch!

Ok, 944's are pesky little critters. They don't think you should be able to pass them. Here he shuts the door, then he barely lifts on the straight.

Slam!

Black Flag Jack on the move. I'm not sure if you can make it out but if you listen very closely you can almost hear his exhaust!! Yes, I gave him a small courtesy lift. Not much though. His car is FAAASSTTT!

Jack

Here's my first ever outbraking corner pass! Really shouldn't be doing that, but the guy didn't lift much and I already commited to the pass. :bye:

Hang on!

Those are some very nice vids! I like that outbraking pass you did.

How did you get the rpm's and speed on the video?

Thanks! The pass was just crazy. Really got my heart pumping.

As for the overlay, I picked up a new videologger. It uses OBDII and brake pedal info to overlay on the video. I'll be posting a review of it in the track section soon.

Very Nice pics and vids.

The silver car has the Intense Motorsports ABS Lip.

The black car has a very expensive custom header to muffler exhaust system designed by a race team, cams, ECU, Tilton, 3.9/Nismo LSD, the 05 lower plenum, Pulley, CJ Fuel system plus some stuff I've probably forgotten. He dynoed 292hp to the rear wheels!!

Awesome "pass.wmv" video You say you didn't lift? The car is a TechArt 996 GT2. Stock the GT2 weighs about the same as a Z and develops 470bhp. TechArt package probably gets it over 500. It sounds pretty crazy!

No, embarassingly enough I did lift. You can see that I was at about 9% throttle on the data stream "thr". I'm used to running with slower cars so I almost always lift just a bit as a courtesy. That thing was amazing plus it was heavily modded! I have more video where I held my own against him in the twisties. But on the straight, there is just no chance.

Zillinois,
Nice video! Is that a lipstick cam you have on your helmet? I think i saw that viper for sale on Bobby Archers website.

BTW here is a 944 that does move out of the way. TWS

Zilliniois, they are fairly heavy cars. 996 Turbo weighs 3600-3700 pounds w/o driver! We have a 996TTS (X50) in the driveway and it is much slower in turns than the Z. I much prefer the Z for corner work. The GT2 on the other hand weighs about the same as the Z at 3100. I am not sure if that was a real GT2 or a Turbo with a GT2 wing and techart bodykit, It is hard to tell with those cars what exactly has been done.

I love it!! LOL. Very nice vid. That track is off the hook!! I'll have to get down there some day.

The guy who owned the Viper was a total wipe out. I don't know if that was his first time driving a Viper, but he was not doing very well. When I can pass a race prepped Viper with a stock VQ Z, you know you've got troubles.

Yes, mine is a bullet cam attached to my helmet, running through a video logger to a Canon MiniDV. The full sized video is amazing. Even the shrunk down ones aren't too bad.

Thanks synf0n, great info to have. I really don't know Porsches well enough to say for sure if it was a GT2. For me its easy to be overwhelmed by the Porsche moniker sometimes. You just lump them all together and forget the the Z is an formidable handler too. Also, I'm not claiming to be a good driver either. I just know that next time, I don't have to lift on the straight for either car.

It is amazing what Porsche does with a motor about the same size as ours (3.6L). They will always dominate on the straights but unless it is an uber-rare GT2 you could give them a pretty good run for their money in the turns. That extra 600 lbs and softer suspension doesn't do them any favors

The turbochargers in that 3.6 are the big difference. That GT2 has a smaller turbo for low end & a bigger one for high end. We have had a few 996 turbo’s at the track at our PCA events. They are amazing machines. I have instructed in a few & had a student loose control to the point where I was sure we were going off only to feel the PSM kick in & I felt each wheel brake at different times & save the car. Amazing!

Zillinois what video logger are you using?

Its a DataCam II. I'm going to do a review of it when I get a little free time.
