Default Brake Pad Input Needed

Hey everyone,

I pm'ed this to a board member already but after thinking about it, I figure I should get everyone's input on this. My car is acting very strangely recently. The rear brakes seem much stronger than the fronts, so much so that even semi hard braking causes the rear to fishtail and seem to lock. I'm guessing my front pads are so worn that the rears are overpowering the fronts. This resulted in me almost wrecking today, on my way to an auto-x event. Needless to say, I am scared ****less to go in that car now even on normal highway speeds. I was hoping you guys could recommend a new set of pads (brand, type, etc), or if maybe you could point me to a place where I can get the OEM Brembos that are available on the track trim level Z. Keep in mind I want these replaced ASAP so if it's too expensive for the Brembo just recommend a pad.

Best Regards,

Gus

Kind of sounds like the bias or ABS is not right. Have you looked at the brakes to see if they are worn? I had the same problem in another vehicle and it was the ABS.

If you still have the Stop Techs on which I see in your signature I would ask them what to do. They are very helpful over there.

check wear of front pads... open up the caliper and inspect everything (or have someone do it)

don't "just guess"

Yeah I will be checking it this week. I was searching for the how-to guide I remember seeing stickied somewhere on the my350z forums that told you how to swap pads. I cannot find it, so if anyone can help me in finding that link or something similar to show me how to open up my calipers and check the pads I would greatly appreciate it.

Best Regards,

Gus

Stock or Stoptech up front?

Stoptechs = Super simple. 1) Take the wheel off. 2) Remove the two Allen bolts (I think 14mm) on the caliper. 3) Pull off the bridge. 4) Remove the rectangular metal retaining clip. 5) Pull pads.

Hope this helps.

From his sigs ... Stoptech Stage2 only includes the rotor, brake lines and pads. He'll have to check the brakes via the oem (caliper) procedures.

Aside from checking for brake faults, have you changed your suspension settings lately? (e.g. lower ride height, etc.)

Sounds to me like the ABS or something else is not distributing power evenly. It may not be both rear brakes, if you are getting sideways without locking up, chances are it is just one wheel braking harder than the other. Anyways, if you want good pads for decent prices check out www.cobaltfriction.com I use their GT-Sport pads for track and autoX and they bite really hard. The only downfall is that they squeal when cold. I use the Nismo pads for the street and they are ok. I have the OEM Brembos though so I don't know how these two suggestions would play out for the regular brakes.
