I'm not sure you can get away with a bumper tuck...seems like it would fall under aerodynamic aid (even though it isn't).

I've done the bumper tuck too. Mine is just held up by 2 zip-ties though, so it could be reversed in about 2 seconds if anyone ever gives me any grief about it.

"Zspeed performance aluminum under shield"
I also wonder about the legality of this. I have one because my plastic OEM one got destroyed by a rock on the highway before I ever knew what autocross was.

Michael Bright, my co-driver and I will be facing off in Dover at the Evo Shootout this weekend. Should be fun. Be nice to match up with the other full prep Z in the country and maybe take home some money in the process...

Like to give a BIG thanks to Mike Bright (hippie) for letting us jump in his hot rod of a Z after one of my rear motons exploded early on Day 1 at the Evo Shootout in Delaware. I sucked, but my co-driver hoped in and killed it out there. With almost impossible odds, we got stacked (all 3 of us), in the same heat for the shootut......in consecutive match-ups. He certainly would have gotten no gripe from me if he said no. It was 105ish degrees out and the course was brutally tough on the cars. Even with that, he let us drive it, and we appreciate it greatly.

In terms of set-up and how they drive....they couldn't be more different if we tried. Both work....and well, but it was staggering to see how differently they drove. Keeping in mind that we actually run the same spring rates, no rear bar, etc.

Funny thing is, some combination or median of the two would probably be a damn near unbeatable set-up IMO. I don't know if Mike has or wishes to publically divulge his set-up, but his car is a real work of art in many respects.

We'll get the Z's matched up again at some point in the year, and hopefully both will be healthy.

No problem and thanks for the compliments. I hope your front tires recover from the heat.

Conisidering the state of my driving, or lack of, it was awesome to to have your co-driver do so well in my car. If you had a couple runs on Sat I'm sure you would have adapted to it as well.

I've posted some set-up stuff in the past, but I'm sure it's changed since then, so here we go....

Motor--custom upper plenum, crawford headers, custom cat delete, y-pipe, and 3" Ti exhaust. No real tune, just an AP stage 2 flash.

Brakes--Stock Brembos w/ Hawk HP+ pads all around. Giro-disc 2 piece rotors all around....for the light weight, quality, and great price these things are worth every penny plus. Thanks Adamk@thmotorsports.com

Shocks--Ohlins LMJ adapted to fit the car, custom valved.

Wheels--Fikse Profil13, 18x11 F 18x12 R with 315/30/18 purple crack on all four.

Weight reduction--Sparco TEC seats, no AC, and no radio.

Drivetrain--ACT prolite flywheel and stock diff (new, but stock VLSD). I had one of the popular aftermarket units and hated the way it made the car drive,
but if someone from OS Giken wanted me to try theirs I'd be willing.....

Set-up--
F 700# springs rubbered up to 800# (black half spring rubbers)
Shortened upper arms with delrin bushings
-3.5 camber 1/8 toe out
Hotchkis bar with a 4th hole added (full stiff)

R 600# springs rubbered up to 650# (orange half rubbers)
Offset Delrin bushings in the upper arms
-1 camber zero toe
no rear bar

I'm sure I've forgotten something, but that's the bulk of it.

Appreciate you posting your set-up, Mike. I'm wondering if the increase in rear wheel spin in the shootout was the diff getting too hot in retrospect.

Diff and/or rear tires loosing grip from the heat.

I have yet to go over the car, I'll let you know if I find something that explains Don's understeer issues in the final four. My guess is debris or heat soak/new tire oils finally coming out.

I passed VMP around 11pm last night, it's +/- 4hrs from the house. Let me know when you're gonna run up there again. All other BSP Zs in the area are welcome.

I wish I put my contour on his helmet so we could see his inputs on turn 1, but I never thought of it while we were there. It was really a freak thing because the turn in was exceptional all weekend. I could see him sawing the wheel on the second run in turn 1, too. Difficult to explain. The tires were very warm after the first run, but he had ~90 mins b/w his last run in qualifying and the final four....shouldn't have been a major problem on turn 1 of run 1. I just wonder if he was trying to square off the corner a bit and going wide into the marbles.

Also, good news about VMP, they start events 12pm.

Great to see all 3 Z drivers make the shootout, and 1 in the final four. Sorry to hear about your Moton, Mike L. Are you back to running no rear bar? I had a good neutral setup on street tires with a stiffer rear bar, but since going to the square 315 A6 setup I finally see the need for removing it. I'm going to try stiffer front springs and the OEM rear bar to try to keep the inside tire on the ground. Does that not cause a lot of understeer? I've always been fastest with some mild oversteer and don't want to give that up.

What spring rates, shocks, front bar, and diff?

I haven't run the rear bar all year.

The top 60 or so drivers were all quite good in Dover. It was definitely the deepest field at an Evo event yet IMO. DJ got down to a 60.2, which raw timed Strano is SS. Pure speculation, but there was a 59 out there for BSP.

Regardless, neither car or the three of us had anything for the CSP miatas on Sunday. I don't think if I had ten runs in my z I could have gotten close to what they were running with regularity.

Quaife diff, so even more important to keep both rear tires planted. (We discussed this briefly on my youtube video last week)

HKS Hipermax III Sport coilovers (single adjustable)

Front: 11K/616lbs (about to go to 13K/728lbs as I was told +/- 2kg/mm would not require revalving)
Hotchkis bar at 2/4 stiffness
Camber at about -3.0

Rear: 12K/674lbs
Hotchkis bar at 1/3 stiffness
Camber about -1.8

That's more spring in the rear and way less in the front that I run (or Mike). I'd probably keep the rear bar with the quaife, but I would get rid that diff it were me.

How have you gotten -3 in the front. Hippie has more than that, but he has modified factory arms and offset bushings.

What about front/rear toe? Ride height? Car weight?

Go full stiff on the front bar. I remember a whole lot of tire spin from your vid. Front roll stiffness will help keep both rears on the ground. With 2/4 on the bar and only 616 springs...you are probably lifting the rear quite a bit on A6's.

Kinetix front arms, which I know are debatable when it comes to legality.

That was pretty much my same setup carried over from 275 street tires. With just 2 events on A6s now under my belt, I'm starting to see where major changes need to be made. My budget for upgrading LSD and shocks is limited until I finish school, but I'm trying to make the best of what I have. It's also my DD. I'll start with the 728lb front springs and stiffening up the front bar.

I made some ride height changes recently, so I'm unsure of my alignment specs until I get it checked later this week. I've never been on a scale, so I don't know about weight. Still has AC and radio though.

What are your offsets? What kind of modding did you have to do to the fenders, if any?

His fenders are custom (and awesome). You pretty much have to be ~+10 or more aggressive with an 11" in the front. The rears you can get away with just a strong roll. Need a ~+25 or lower with a 12" in the back.
