Finally made it back to VIR, I had decided to go with the Koni yellows and RS-R Ti springs since I wanted something similar to the Nismo set-up but cost a little less.

Driving the car on the street is much better than stock so, I wasnt sure how it would hold up at the track but, I was surprised on how well it did. I had the Koni's at full stiff front and half stiff rear and I have hotckiss sways set on med front and rear as well as Azenis 245/255 on my stock track rims.

The car stayed pretty flat and it never pushed no matter what I did and there was actually a little bit of oversteer at first, but I upped my rear tire pressure which helped a lot. I was going faster than I ever had before and really pushing myself, even in the wet, and the car never let me down and did what I wanted it to do. It's very easy to get the rear to oversteer slightly when needed, but it's very controllable even when coming in hot. My instructor was impressed also, and was surprised at some of the cars we where passing and the speeds at which I was going through the turns.

The new 615 Azenis are great in the rain and didnt hydroplan (everyone was complaining about having problems) even at 120+. Everything I have done to my car has exceeded my expectation and it was all money well spent. I had previous worries about needing more tire, but I think right now at my level it's plenty.

Next up is new rotors and a diff!

how'd you like the snow!?

i didn't even have to be on throttle some corners and the car would slide (10am-ish). yikess.

the set up i ran yesterday was stock suspenson, 350evo bar, and track wheels with t1-r's with a 10mm stagger (245/255). the car had a hint of understeer but other than that felt very neutral.

which 350z where you? did you see the sunset lemans?

 

I was the Silverstone Track in group 2. And yeah I saw the Lemans, and know his son who was in a RX-7. It was not a good way to start the event and put a little bit of fear in me.

 

I saw the Sunset Lemans... in fact, I was instructing that car and had to bear witness to that interesting ride.

Looks like I missed all you guys there. I was there Sunday on the patriot course w/ the drift cars. Supporting one of my customer shop's projects.
Heard the weather on saturday was, um.. interesting.

Much of a height drop with the RSRs?

 

No, just a half an inch. All I needed and my alignment is still in specs.

 

what happened with the LeMans?

 

It was snowing, cold, wet, and he had R-compounds. The first green lap, we were accelerating out of the flat esses, and the car snapped around without warning. Not sure how it happened as he didn't goose the throttle, and he was opening up the wheel. We spun around, and hit the left guardrail hard at the front right corner, richocheted and hit the rear right corner, and then slid all the way into the tirewall under the bridge. The front right suspension and subframe were broken, but otherwise the damage is cosmetic. There may be some damage to the rear right axle and diff, but that problem may not manifest for some time.

Fortunately, both driver and myself got out unscathed...

 

That's sad.

But why. oh why did he go out on the track?

A $300.00 track day fee isn't worth f*cking up a $30,000 car.

when it's all over and done, wrecking is just part of the sport. it happens.. but it's always the last thing lingering in your mind.

sounds like it was just a freak accident.. nothing he could really do to control it. seems like he was driving within his limits.

which tires was he running?

 

I was in the same run group and I was thinking about not going out, but I decided to take it slow and if I got scared and couldnt control the car I was gong to come back in.

It was cold and snowing but, the track was wet not icy so basically it was like running in the rain. Fortunatly I wasnt on R's and was able to still accelerate on the corner exits, slowly though. I didnt have any issues with hydo-planning so I stuck it out and it was good experiance. The car did much better than I expected.
