The biggest difference in classes is the treadwear on the tires.

The main difference in the classing was the treadwear rating on the tires. Street class ha dto run 140+ treadwear tires, and Modified had to run 50+ treadwear (R Compounds). Unlimited could run anything, provided they were DOT legal.

There were a couple other rules too, but Unlimited was mostly race cars, as Modified and Street were street legal cars divided up based on tire choice.

The temp wasn't getting anywhere near dangerous for synthetic oil, but it was getting to the point where power loss was evident.
I installed my oil cooler on the side of my Intercooler (driver side)and since than have never had a oil temp problem. Your intercooler may be different, but I can take pictures if you want.
Are you sure you want to go with more oil capacity - you will just increase your wieght of your car? Yet, it will help with oil temps in AutoX but will not help in Road racing. Since the excess capacity will just mean it will take longer to come up to temp, but you will still reach the same temps.

Actually after talking to VRT's mechanic and Jim Wolf I was informed that my car still had the detergent oil from the break in period in it. Once I switch to full synthetic it should drop ~20 degrees. They also said that optimum operating temp is 240-260 degrees. They said I shouldn't worry until I get to about 310 degrees.

Since they no much more about this topic than I do, I guess I shouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the heads up Steve! I didn't think I broke out of 1:20 so thats cool. The rest of my class killed me though lol. I think that my car could have been capable of 1:11 or 1:12s if it was set up properly and I knew how to drive it better.

Man, all those pics at Modified.com and not ONE picture of my car!

I guess I need to have a wing, body kit and fancy decals to get noticed any more. Almost all of the pictures were of the Unlimited and Modified class cars. Very few pictures of Street class cars (not any Mustang or Camaro pictures either - except the two in the Unlimited class), except for that BRS-MRS that looked like a JGTC car.

Quite a few good shots of your car though, Mike.

The problem is packaging. Because our cars were never designed with TT in mind -- there is very little, if any, space to mount the size and type of oil coolers that you will need. I think you find the problem even worse at Big Willow or Buttonwillow in the heat of the summer when you are at WOT for longer periods of time.

I would set to work on dealing with the oil temp issues -- otherwise you will never be able to run more than handful of laps before having to pull off.

Edit: You might want to try contacting James Chen at Axis Wheels. He races a supercharged Z in NASA Unlimited class. As far as I know -- he is the only person actually racing a forced-induction Z. He might have some insights on dealing with the heat. You might also try talking to a real race team that knows these cars -- like Jackson Stewart at Unitech. Although I suspect he has little experience with TT'ed Zs (he sets up the Grand Am Cup cars which are all N/A).

Good luck though.

BTW -- I hate Pilot Sports. They have a very limited heat range and tend to chunk up and wear really unevenly. Try Toyo RA1s -- they are cheaper and (I think) better. If you really want to hit incredible times and money is no object (which I assume since PSCs are $$$) -- just go with a set of Hoosier slicks.
Think again! We've (N-Tech Engineering) been running a forced induction 350 for two seasons. First year was with an ATI supercharger that we kept shearing the teeth off the belts, and last year, we used the Power Enterprise twin setup, which we modified. Finished second in the points championship of our region's NASA Super Unlimited class, to a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. Still on the stock suspension!

We had to completely re-engineer the front of the car and add TWO oil coolers as well as a very large aluminum racing radiator. We also used a proprietary fiberglass nose based on the C-West N1 (we have molds of this). It was quite a project, but we learned an aweful lot... It can be done if you work with air management and fluid cooling...
