Default Hey, Toyo People!

I'm going to run my 1st track session on 275 RA-1's and would like a head start on tire pressure. I'm on stock alignment and am looking for a baseline recommendation. For reference, I used to run 245 AO32's at 29-30 PSI cold and pick up 8-9 pounds in the first session.
Thanks,

Tim

They tend to work best at 42 hot. For me that means setting the rears with about 1-2 lbs less when cold.
Start somewhere in the low 30's cold.

I normally started around 29-30 cold, and the tires usually heated up to 40-42. Dave is correct, they operate best when they're hot and around 42 or so.

New ones are 17 x 9" 5zigens, old ones were 17 x 8" Mille Miglia and weighed a ton. They've turned back into dedicated snow tire rims.

275 on 9in rims? Isn't a bit wide?

A bit, but it's within spec and worth a try. I had no complaints with the narrower Yokies, they were predictable but ran out of lateral grip earlier than I'd like (H compound). I'm hoping to get mid corner speeds up with a little more meat on the ground.

I usually start off the Toyo RA-1 at 30-31 psi cold, on a G35, which is a couple hundred pounds heavier than your Z.

If you are in the dry, you might also want to consider their sister company Nitto's NT-01 offering. Stiffer sidewall with more responsive modulation, wider tread blocks, little bit stickier. Very nice tire. Noisier however. And a definite "no-no" in the wet.

I'm in a G35 too. I drive to/from the track and run in the wet with the same tires. I get 1 set of tires per year so full tread's a requirement to get me through spring.

Thanks,

Tim

Ah, great. If you are running a 275 up front, be careful about rubbing on the inside. With a 9.5" wide rim and 27mm offset I have to use a 3mm spacer on the fronts to keep them from rubbing my upper control arm (perf nissan adjustable front uca with 3.5 degrees negative camber set).

I have run the 17x9", 35mm offset 5Zigens with 275/40's (Falken RT-615s) for a while now. I find it works very well. No rubbing issues and it gives the car very good balance (with perhaps just a hint of oversteer). Just ask Eagle1 (Ed), since he followed me for a while at Cali Speedway one Saturday in early March.

This is good then. I might go 275 up front if I don't like the 255.275 setup I have now.

The other benefit of this setup is that it lets you swap front and rear wheels/tires (and even side to side in the case of the RT-615s) to better even out wear. These tires have an inside and an outside, but are not directional, so you can take a left side tire and put it on the right side. This is great for those tracks which cause heavier tire wear on one side.

If it's dry, the Toyo's can be run "backward", so I can swap them left and right.

Front to rear might be tricky because I have 9in rims in the front and 10in in the rear. Still doable, but I might have rollover problem with the 9in wheels in the rear...
