Default Falken RT-615 track pressures?

Hey all.

I was wondering what kind of cold pressures you guys/gals are running in your Falken RT-615's on the track (road course, not auto-x).

I am running 275/40R17's on 17x9 wheels all the way around if that makes any difference.

Thanks as always.

Sean

Falken used to have the pressure recommendations on their spec page. Take a look there. I'm running 275/35/18 on all corners, with 32 psi front and 30 rear. I remember that the recommended pressures for their 17" tires were different - higher IIRC.

Sean, Roebling will heat up your tires like crazy. So I had to drop my cold pressures to get good grip, especially the drivers side front! I will have a pyrometer with me at Roebling, if they let me in pit lane, I will take some tire temps for you during one of your runs if you want.

But, since I won't be there on Friday with you, try 30 to 35 cold pressures and look at the wear and hot tire pressures. And for Roebling, I would start my drivers front about 1 psi less than the passanger side. Since you will be working the heck out of this tire on the last turn coming into the straight and it will build up a lot more pressure than the rest.

Oh - and your recommended heal-toe works really well for me! Now if I can just get down matching RPM's I will be in business. But, I guess that is what HPDE is for!

See you Friday night,
Mike

I usually start off at 32 front, 32 rear and let air out of the rears as I get comfortable and smoother.

When I check pressures at the end of a session they wont get over 39 psi hot when set at 32 cold.

I would cook and grease my Azenis at Putnam if I ran lower than 35 psi cold. 42-44 "pit hot" allowed me to do a full session.

But they'd still give up a bit while braking in the back straight at MidOhio...

I'm a R-compound addict now...

I used to run the 275/40-17 RT-615s on all four corners as well on 17x9" 5Zigen FN01R-C's. Great inexpensive, long-life track combo that sticks almost as well as R-compounds.

I used between 35F/34R to 33F/32R with good results. Depends on the track, the temperature, how much camber, etc. Maybe start out at 34F/33R and adjust from there. I know their website says 32F/30R, but I think that's just too low, IMHO.

oh...thanks for bumping this. i said i would report back and never did.

at Roebling Road (a track that is pretty tough on tires) i was running LF32 / RF 33 / LR 33 / RR 33.

all four tires would end up at 40 when i would check them after a session. the tires felt great. they are SO much stickier than a normal street tire, and held up very well. i did a couple of back to back 30 min. sessions, and they didn't really overheat until the end of the second session.

they allowed me to chase down other 350z's on R-comps that i couldn't hang with before.

not bad for $146/tire.

thanks for the advice everyone.

I believe I was running them at 35-36 hot at Motorsport Ranch up in Dallas/Ft Worth. The felt greasy to me if I ran them any higher than that.
