I'm autocrossing to win locally, I doubt I'll ever compete in the national tour events or in the SCCA championships. (At least not on Falkens).

And yes, the HPDEs are purely for fun. I think most of the comments here confirm what I've believed all along - the wide tires are the way to go for autocross. And they're not the best thing to use for the HPDEs.

I'll probably stick with my street setup for the HPDE (255/285 PS2s) and go with the 265/35 Falkens for Autox. Looking at the specs for the 265 vs 275 the tread width is the same (10") and there is only 0.1 diff in the section width. The 265's are reinforced whereas the 275s aren't. The shorter 265s will spin-up quicker than the 275s which can only help in the short autocross courses.

I'll keep them in mind. Occasionally, I'll see some used Kumho's or Hoosiers for sale here by some of the track guys. Sounds like a good idea before investing in a new set of R-compound tires.

If you decide to go with 17's I have 5- 275/40 Azenis for sale. All of them for $450. Two of them are brand new and the other 3 have 75% tread left.

Can't use 17's - got 18" track wheels to put them on. Thanks for the offer though.
