Good question! IMO it could help the ultimate longevity of an R-compound tire to follow this procedure, but that's not easy for most of us. You really need to get the tire up into it's operating temperature to make this work and that's not easy on the street! If you have access to a vacant parking lot, you could run a skidpad in both directions for five to 10 minutes, then run them straight home and either take them off, or at least jack the car up overnight to let the tire cool and stabilize.

Again- this topic was specific to slicks and IMO, the first heat cycle is absolutely critical for that particular product.

I just wasn't interested in bringing 5 sets of slicks for every track day!
