I see, just trying to clear things up. Thank you.

No HANS yet, and I still have the stock seat.
how does the stock seat handle the 6-point harness? how did you bolt them in?

I understand the whole rollcage airbag thingy, but what if you just get a harness bar.
I have a 4 point Takata harness, with the 5 point attachment, and i realy want to put them on. just wonderin if a harness bar will suite me.

Harness bar without HANS or equivalent = neck stretch in case of an impact.

Harness bar without roll over protection = potential spinal compression in the (unlikely) event of a roll over as the roof collapses on your head and you can't bend over like you can with a 3pt seatbelt.

All If's and Maybe's of course. The only certainty I have is that the OEM setup is the only that has been crash and roll tested.

No harness bar for me.

No problem. You attach them at the front bolts that hold the rails of the seats down. In my case, Mitch Piper welded hook eyes to the existing bolts.

Some people claim that this is not as safe as a real racing seat with a hole in the seat, bolting straight down to the floor. Perhaps that's true, technically, but I don't think it's a really serious matter.

It probably wouldn't be acceptable in some racing series, however.

I have a new answer to this very common debate...

If you knew positively that you were going to get in a terrible end over end wreck the next time you went to the track, what safetey equipment would you buy?

Me, I would either buy nothing at all or everything. You will love your harness bar right up until the day you roll your car and snap your neck.

If you drive your car on the street at all, don't do a thing. Not seats, not harnesses, not anything. They didn't design the car with those things, so don't mess with it. If you don't want to move around so much at the track, get a CG-Lock or a dedicated track car. Spec Miatas are really cheap.

I would say that is the smartest answer, but definetly not what I wanted to hear. I like the way the harness feels, I have not tried the cg lock so I cant comment on that. Maybe I will buy one.

I have used it and it works very well. No more need to brace yourself with your knee on the door panel .

I have the CG locks and they work ok but can be a pain to set up sometimes - sometimes they like to slip a little and you gotta wrestle with them to get them to grip properly. They're pretty cool though
