Need Tire Trailer!!!
Any of yall selling or know any brands of trailers that dont have to be custom fabricated to fit tires. I went to Northern Tools and found a 4*6 trailer but it will have to be modified to carry tires. I live in San Antonio Texas.
Thanks in advance

But I thought you were going to tow your car to Floria on a trailer? Just put the tires in the back of the truck. You need a hitch too if your gonna do what your planning.

search for SN "drivesolo" ... his trailer hitch is the most hidden I've seen. I've also seen a few vettes that have the hitch come through the license plate area...the license plate has a hinge on the top and allows the hitch to come through the bumper - when it's not there, the license plate looks normal (no hole)

I second trailer the car to the track, if you have a truck that can tow 5,000# already, spend your money on a car trailer! I started trailering begging in Sept last year, and already I have really needed twice. Once because I wore out a set of new brake pads (7 hours at Sebring will do that), and the other time since the engine gave up.
Plus, with the truck you can haul so much more to the track that will save you time and money. Especially if you haul your fuel with you instead of buying it at the track.
If you don't have a truck, than a tire trailer is a great option. It is really easy. The cheasest and easiest way is to buy a couple pieces of pipe long enought so that when two tires are stacked ontop of one another the pipe is a couple of inches longer, tread it onto a flange, bolt/nail the flange on to the bed of the trailer so that the pipe is vertical, put your center of you wheel around the pipe. Then just use some bungy cords so the wheels don't jump off the pipe when driving.
I did mine a little different and built a steal rack to cradel the wheels in the upright possition. This cost more, but gives you more space on the trailer.

I believe the Frontier hauling capacity is 5000#, but don't quote me on it. You car weights about 3400# and open trailers range from 800# to 1500# so you will be towing around a maximum of 4900#. Now if you just don't put any fuel in the car while towing you are looking at a total of 4750# max.
Just make sure the tailer you get has electric brakes, your load is properly distributed on the trailer, and you drive defensively, and the Frontier will safely get you and your car to the race track. With electric brakes on the trailer, the truck will stop in as short or short distance than just the truck alone, if you don't have electric brakes - hang on.

Personally, and from several places I have read, I wouldn't tow more than 70% of you capacity over a distance. Max loads are calculated on short straight line instances. The do not take in account heat build up, inclines, etc.

I wouldn't worry about the Frontier. You'll have to take more care than with a full size pickup, driving slower etc. But it'll do it.
That is even better, the Frontier should have no problem pulling an open car trailer and car. Just check the wheel base of the truck vs the trailer. If the trailer is longer you will need a load distribution hitch.

There are some other reasons for the 70-80% rule. Towing capacity is based on a vehicles GCWR rating, minus is curb weight of a base model, a 170 lbs driver and all fluids at sea level.
So let's look at the Frontier.
The GCWR is 11,133.
The Base model Curb Wieght is 4,200. The rest is fluid and driver. So now you have your 6,500 towing capacity.
Now add 200-500 lbs of options. Add your tools and gear. Add a passenger or two. Then calculate a 2% loss of power for every 1000 ft above sea level. Calculate a 5%-10% loss of Capacity for every 10 Degrees of elevation angle. It doesn't take much to be at 100% of capacity. That's why most towing accessory places recommend a 20% buffer of capacity.
