Default Accusump

Anyone have one installed and care to share what kit or what they did to install it? Getting ready to purchase one for a Z and would rather not reinvent the wheel.

Thanks in advance

edit: Nissan Motorsports sells a sandwich plate that should make this a no brainer, but still chime in if you have insight for the Z install.

Kuah at SPL Parts has installed a few on 300zx's. Might want to give the shop a call. 1-866-SPLPART.

Are you having oil pressure problems with your z33?

No, no problems currently, this is preventive. We will be racing the car in NASA Southeast eduro series this year which are 3 hour long events.

It's always nice to see how others have installed their equipment to give us idea's on how we would like to install ours.

I have a 3 quart Accusump unit for sale, with electric on/off valve..and have a few spare misc parts. PM me for price if interested.

I had it on my S2000 for about 3 months of street and track usage.. Sold the S2000 and can't see an easy way to install it in my 2006 Z.

BTW: I am in Atlanta GA, and will be @ Roebling Jan 18-20 for a PCA track day.

this is a great idea!, any thoughts on mounting though? and where would we get a sandwich adapter for the oil filter? what is the oil's normal operating pressure?

*EDIT oil pressure is supposed to be 14psi @ idle, 43psi @ 2000rpm, 57psi @ 6000rpm

I picked up the sandwhich plate from Nissan Motorsports, it was made by Unitech. I also picked a high pressure 3qt accusump last weekend so install will start soon. Also plan on adding a oil cooler as well. As for location this one will be mounted in the passenger seat area since there is not one and it is going in race Z.

Will post pic's when we start.

I used a Accusump for years on my Nissan semi-tube GT5 car. It was plumbed into the wet sump system and sat in the passenger compartment next to me. The biggest problem was any sudden spike in oil pressure (usually in the middle of a race) would activate the oil bypass switch. Hot oil would spray around the cockpit and I had to put my (gloved) hand down to keep it from getting on my visor. This happened sporadically and I eventually gave up and went to a full drysump system.

You're kidding right? It actually happened more then once and you just put your hand out to keep the spray from hitting your visor?

i didn't even know there was an oil bypass switch - i thought there was just one valve, one accumulator, and one gauge.

apparently accusump also carries the sandwich plates. do you remember the size of the thread?

After draining and disassembling the accusump, I replaced several worn parts and reassembled the entire unit. It worked well for that race and the rest of the National season and the Runoffs. It happened again out of the blue the following year and created another mess during a qualifying session. Pulled it down again and did an inspection- nothing wrong, no parts out of spec, so I put it back together and ran it again with no problems.

There is a pressure relief valve, on the Accusump unit itself. It is set to ~175psi. If you install the Accusump in the cabin, I would recommend wrapping a piece of cloth around the fittings as a precaution, which will prevent oil from spraying all over in the case of a leak.

Or maybe run a line from the pressure relief outlet to a catch can with a filter somewhere outside of the passenger compartment.

that's a really good idea. i wasn't planning to mount it in the cabin - i was planning somewhere in either the engine bay, or just under the bumper support.

As mentioned, if the pressure relief valve does open, you DON'T want all that oil being sprayed on hot headers, or worse, leaking onto your tires!
