24 Hours of Daytona
Alright. Here are the pictures. They are RX-8 heavy for obvious reasons.
I've got a lot of other cars though. I was hoping the 350Z GT cars from last year were going to be there. I saw them at Barber last July.
Here are pictures from the Grand Am Daytona Event.

I made some decals for ROAR on short notice, so they graciously ran one for me! All the tracks in the Koni Challenge Series except New Jersey which isn't complete yet. I can now say that I made decals for a Grand Am Pro Team!
They rock!

Qualified 2nd.

F-18's flew by a few times.

The #70, I'm in love:

One of the coolest vehicles there!

Ok, more pictures....
Some maybe out of sequence, but you'll get the idea. During the evening I made a couple trips back into the garages to get an update on casualties of the race. I've got some pictures and explanations from those as well.
Pre race prep:

Here's the configuration with the oil coolers closer in:

I love the graphics on these cars:

The Edge Racing RX-8:

More of my love. I gotta have one of these....

The Sahlen's guys were very nice and talkative too. Told me that the only GM part on that car is the engine and they rebuild that as soon as they get it. The rear end is a Ford. That made me laugh.

Here're some of the casualty photos from the night:
Rear suspension damage after getting punted. Had to retire for the evening.

Engine trouble. Told me that they found metal when draining the oil. MPC, blown casing.

Suspension failure. Old blue eyes had a limp.

Brake failure. Went off track and had to come in to get new brake pads/rotors installed. Took about 3 minutes to change all 4 pads/rotors.

The pads were down to the backing after about 9 hours of racing. For perspecitve, new pads have about 7/8" material. Here's a picture of a new set.

Broken fronnt sway bar. They changed the whole front end in about 15 minutes with the driver still in the car.

Damaged front end after an off track excursion. Needed new front end work and radiator. Rotors/pads changed.

Even Chip helped! You don't usually see the owner doing any work. I was impressed.

Hey guys,
Just so folks who read this thread know, the Car and Driver Koni Challenge Nissan's are still running. We were at Daytona and we're planning on doing the rest of the season. Last year presented us with engine troubles, however, we're back with an improving motor program, and I expect you'll see us creep up the leaderboard as the year goes on.
Best regards,
Rich

Yup that's me. I would have bought.
We had a great time. Hopefully a group will be able to get together next year. I found out after the fact that several folks I knew were there.
That's how it always works....here's a pick of us and some friends who slid by the gaurd to get into the hot pits.

Of course this was about 2:30 in the morning or so. We were even offered a late night snack by one of the crews there in the hot pits. Managed to stay up till about 4am before the cold and rain finally won over on my need to sleep and keep warm.
See you at cmp!
