Default Buttonwillow April 26 & 27th

NASA will be running a HPDE at Buttonwillow the 26 & 27th of this month. I am currently signed up for both days. Maybe some of you guys that were there last week are ready to go back for more.

I'm doing some work on my car right now. If I see that I can have it ready by then, I'll try to make it on Sunday.

This was my first chance to try out my Vredestein tires on the track. They are a very good street tire at a great price but not very good on the track. They don't even start out good and then go away like many tires do when they get hot.
Had the honor of having Billy Johnson (who drives a Porshe 997 in the Koni Challenge for Marcus Motorsports) drive my car for a session in TT while I rode along. All I can say is WOW! He had my car at the very limit that the tires would allow and used every inch of the race track.
I have been using the Raybestos ST-43 pads for the track and although they are great at hauling the car down from high speed they are just too grippy and upset the balance of the car before turn in. Billy said they were too agressive even for his liking.

Billy is really fast. It is why they pay him! I expect to see his name a lot in the future. And a very polite young man with good manners, and strong diagnostic/observational skills for helping to set a car up. And he doesn't tear the equipment apart or pinball off the rails. Precisely the type that the big money teams with fast and expensive cars are always looking for. He took my car around Streets in 1:23, full track with the bowl. That is cooking for a heavy G.

Too bad I didn't see this thread before the weekend or I'd have made it a point to say hello. I was there driving an RX-7 in the Saturday evening enduro. The weather sure was cooperative all weekend. Here's a short video clip of the start, if anyone is interested (although it's not a Z):

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/c__UVzIpAQM&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/c__UVzIpAQM&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Will you guys be at Buttonwillow for the NASA event in June? We'll be there running the 6-hour.

Interesting. Looks like the Integra nearly took your nose off in the sweeper on the very first lap.

Indeed. I knew he had a faster car and that my only chance to get by would be at the start on cold tires. He must have seen my move and adjusted accordingly. I knew I had 2 hours and 58 minutes left in the race, so contact didn't seem like a good idea!

Thank you guys for the compliments .

Rick - it was great working with you at Buttonwillow that weekend. Steve did a great job aligning and corner-balancing your car. Keep hitting the track and enjoying your car!
