Default Extreme Fitament question

Here are the players and their measurements.

17x10.5 +27mm offset Mustang Cobra R wheels (dirt cheap, 150 bucks a piece)

I'm going to run 275/40-17 NT01's up front (I'll end up running probably a 5 mm spacer to prevent it from rubbing on the control arm)

the big question is can I run the 315/35-17's out back with rolled fenders. If I would need a spacer what sizes would I be looking at?

AND, if I choose to go with A6/R6, could I run a 295/35-17's in the front? with maybe a 10mm spacer, dropped an inch on T2 springs (camber suggestions? or is this over the edge of feasable?).

Thanks for any input! the autox today was fun, but I've had enough sideways fun, I'm really focused on moving to R-compounds.

Ask first350 -- he's running 315s and 295s in BSP...

I'm pretty sure he's running spacers.

yikes, will you be able to get any heat into 315s at an autox??

(btw, big thumbs up on the cobra wheels - I got a set for my Z and was shocked how well they fit, and the price was hard to beat - only issue for me was the aluminum centering rings I wanted were never in stock ANYWHERE, grr)

you can run a 315 in the rear but you will most likely have to roll the fenders i run 305 and i had to roll my fenders.

yeap, this is actually my post, accidentally did it on my friends account but I figured anything in the 300 range would require rollling.

but yeah they'll get warmed up by the 4th and 5th runs at local events...and thats where you make your money :P

at the bigger events (kinda planning on moving to these huge tires, swapping back to my 3.54 gears and running BSP in SEDiv events in Atlanta) it will be no problem to get em warmed up as the courses are REALLY long and fast, and its hot in A-town anyhow. What do the alluminum centering rings do? kinda planning on running a 5mm spacer up front and a 10mm spacer out back.

well the centerbore on the rustang wheels is larger than our Z's hub so you are SUPPOSED to run a centering ring to make sure its still hubcentric vs lug-based. what would be AWESOME would be custom spacers w/ the um, iirc 66-67mm (not sure exactly?) on the inside / hub side and whatever the cobra rims are on the wheel side. sure, they would ONLY work in this application but they would be much better than off-the-shelf stuff.

I was wondering about that centerbore actually. wont present any problems for autox I wouldnt think (rarely hit the triple digits really).

here's what I'm running:

rims: RPF1 18X10 +38
Front: Hoosier A6 295/35/18 w/ a 15mm spacer (slight rub on hard cornering)
Rear: Hoosier A6 315/35/18 w/ a 15mm spacer and mild roll of rear fenders.
*I have less than 5mm clearance both on the inside and outside - I ended up going w/ the RPF1's b/c I knew that they'd be too far in and that I could just get a spacer to get it exactly right.

camber: F -2.0, R -2.5
lowered 2.5"

**the rear is really dependent on the shocks you're running - I run the JIC's, and IIRC they're slight fatter than OE...I probably have 5mm of clearance. (which isn't much when you consider the amount the tires can move when cornering).

I need to slightly roll the front fenders b/c as it is now, under very hard cornering, the front tires will just barely rub the fenders.

Regarding heat - on days colder than 70F, the rear tires don't heat up enough...but once temps are above 70F, they're wonderfully grippy!

I'm running OEM's right now but I'll probably be moving to Mono Flex's before I move to R-comps in those huge tire sizes. more concerned with winning the local Street Tire Modified class this year right now. thanks for the info first350. how do you do in BSP up there in the NW anyhow? you run regional events?

btw just as a feeler, would anybody be interested in a used 4.083 final drive gear set for $400 + shipping? cause this car is never gonna be competitive in SM2 and a final drive ratio change throws me into modified.

sure thing! I've actually been doing much better than what I thought I would have - last yr I won my class in a smaller local autoX series, but this year I bumped up to the NW region SCCA series - out of 2 events, I placed 2nd and 1st ....I've got my 3rd event this coming Sunday! (I've also been lucky b/c 2 guys who would be competing in my class are running the open PAX class...while I haven't been able to beat their times yet, I've been pleased to see that I'm not too far behind!)

*the weather has not been helpful - it's not warm enough to get the rear heated up...and it's supposed to rain this weekend

Event #1 results:

Event #3 results:
http://www.wwscc.org/event_results/2008/scca-03.html
I run NS1, which is an indexed class of ASP, BSP, ESP.
*there was snow on the roads for event #2, so I didn't make it

Good job! I was wondering if these cars could be competitive at BSP at the regional level. I hate PAX'd classes, that whole "this is what your car could theoretically run" idea is bogus...what are the other two BSP guys running car wise?

FYI
Don't forget that due to some wheel offset, a stud on the left rear inner fender wheel house needs to be ground down. Sits almost horizontal to the hub for reference, otherwise the tire will rub.

huh? What is the stud for? I haven't seen anything like that - and after 2 events on my 315's, there's no signs of rubbing/abnormal wear.

The stud is for holding a peice of plastic on the track models, but all the Z's come with it. With hard enough conering it will & can rub, of course if it rubs hard enough it might just break off
