Looking for a car for under 5500. preferably a RWD car. Leaning towards Porsche 944, BMW, Mustang, maybe even an RX-7. Other then scca forums, nasa forums and racingjunk.com, where is their a great site to find race cars for sale????

Good luck finding an RX-7 for under $5,500. Don't overlook Miatas -- they're great on the track and plenty of aftermarket parts. FI kits are affordable.

my dad drives a SM and for some reason my big **** just doesn't fit in it to well. my head is over the front window. He has racing seats and aftermarket rails so it isn't going a lot lower. We even cut out part of the floor to set the seats lower.

Stay away from 944 unless you want to sell your soul to afford parts.

I would say Miata or if you don't mind FWD a B13 SE-R. Both are damn cheap, but the SE-R would be faster. My brother has one that makes 160 hp and the entire car costs less than a set of wheels and tires for a 350z.

I've seen FC's go for under a grand. LS1 swaps are pretty cheap too.
I've driven 944's, E30 coupes and 944's and all were way underpowered for me. I know people say you learn better driving skills in a car that has less power because it forces you to learn momentum, but it's just not fun for me without somewhere north of 250hp.

there are FWD cars ALL over the place for sale. Civics, CRX, integras, but looking for RWD for now. If I get frustrated down the road I may pick up a CRX just to get me by till next season. for now, still looking.

There's a decent looking ITA 240sx on the Grassroots link.

NA 944s aren't all that pricey (to maintain either). Turbo, forget it. e30 BMW or spec e36 is not horribly priced either. competitive miata is gonna run you 25+ (for SM / SSM)

Come on Billy... join the Dark Side!! Do like all the rest of us TZC'ers have done... get a BMW!!

Just remember... finding a $5500 car that you won't have to spend another couple grand on making track-ready is gonna be tough no matter what make or model.

Right now, the best deals seem to still be the Miatas and E30's.

Plus the support for both series and parts is phenominal for these two.

A preped E30 has a better power to weight ratio than a stock Z.

I will say over time most that we have know that line a lot of horsepower grow to like the better handling over time. Stack and I have a friend who said he couldn't find any fun in any car with less than 400 HP. He now drives a well built 240Z and is loving it.

While I'm a former E30 M3 owner, I'd say find a non-M E36. That should come in the price range by now I think.

Make a WTB thread in SCCAforums and else where. My buddy got a hell of a nice 71' 240z for $7500 that way.

found some BMW's partially prepped for a good price. still needs a couple grand put in it but for about 3500 for the car, i can have some room to play. grassroots link has a few good cars.

so far found a 93 325is with full suspension, moderate mods, and not to bad on the eyes. 3500.00

and the one i am leaning towards...

1987 325is 2.5 litre 6 5 speed Grey
~ Koni Single Adj struts
~ Ground Control Coil Overs
~ Ireland Engineering Camber Plates
~ Ireland Engineering Fr / Rr Strut braces
~ Headers into 2.5 inch exhaust
~ Power Slot Rotors
~ Hawk HP Pads
~ Chipped
~ Tuner FX race seats w/G Force belts
~ Borbet 16x9.5 wheels
~ 245/45/16 A6 Hoosiers in very good shape.
~ Newer clutch
~ Very good condition overall. Could use some minor body work and a good buffing. The sunroof panel is tack welded closed and the headliner is loose on the rear sail panels.
~ $4000 (or maybe a shifter kart trade?)

honestly... i don't know a DARN thing about BMW's. If it doesnt' have a chevy, ford or nissan emblem, i'm retarded.
