Default L.A. Area - Track Days and Instruction

Hello all,

I've recently relocated to southern California and would like to find a new group to join for open track events.

My main intention is to find a reputable group that is based around safety(!), track time and quality instruction.

I have been active in club racing with both SCCA and NASA, and have instructed for many organizations (PCA, Audi Club, Chin, etc.) so instructor opportunities would be a must.

I would appreciate any suggestions you can provide. Thanks for your help!

I have been running with Aaron of Speedventures for four and a half years now and found his program to be one of most consistently professional and safe that is out there.

For northern California I have run many events with Trackmasters-Racing, and their principal Doug Gale, and again very well organized and operated.

Doug does not come farther south than Laguna Seca. Based in Granite Bay, outside the Sacramento area, that means he primarily goes to Thunderhill Raceway Park, about 90miles north of Sacto on I-5 in the town of Willows (a fine track but a 9 hour pull from LA!), Sears Point Infineon in Sonoma, Laguna Seca, and on occasion the very fun track of Reno Fernley...about 30 miles east of Reno on I-80.

Aaron runs Cal Speedway in Fontana, Big Willow and Streets of Willow out in Rosamond, Buttonwillow Raceway Park about two hours north of LA on I-5, Laguna Seca (sometimes sharing event days with Doug), Spring Mountain in Pahrump, Nevada, and on occasion Sears Point. He has also done LV Motor Speedway.

There are some other groups of course. Redline has a competition thing they do and it is a bit different, but if that is something that interests you, you can check out their modus operandi on their website, and PM some of the lads that run with them more frequently.

Welcome to the neighborhood. We have some very good tracks out here, and it is great to have the choices.

Redline is running Cal Speedway with the ROVAL on the weekend of the 19th. You can do the HPDE only, and not race, on Saturday. The Roval is an amazing track day experience. 3100 foot front straight banked 11 degrees, leading into the banked turn of the Roval, 14 degrees. The full run down the straight, through the turn, and down part of the back straight is almost 5,000 feet. Intense speed.

I would also look into Driving Concepts. The instruction is one on one, in car and you have the instructor all day. Immediate and valuable feedback. They teach to your goal, not theirs. they limit the amount of cars in their group and have the best safety record that I know of. www.drivingconcepts.com
