I've heard good things about Z1 also. I bought mine for $500 shipped (central 20 3.9) from another vender on here but now I can't remember who it was. That was almost a year ago now, hmmm...

How difficult is it to get these installed? I've been considering a new final gear for a while and now that I have a 2nd vehicle this mod has moved up significantly on my list.

Where do you get them installed? A good transmission shop, dealer, just any mechanic?

I had a dealer do mine. Just find someone that is comfortable working with rear ends.

There's a lot that goes into making sure everything is to spec.

I was lucky that I had a friend who works as a tech for Subaru and has had a lot of experience swapping gears in rear ends who did it for $100, . I know, it was a hell of a deal. It took him one night and they have run like a dream ever since they were installed last December. It's completely worth $600 (even more if you have to pay more) because the difference is immediately evident.

I didn't even know there was a 4.08 available. Sounds like a good idea for NA cars.

Running the 350 Evo 3.9FD with my Vortech, and love the combo.

definitely take it to a very reputable rear end mechanic. these things are pretty tricky to shim right (sometimes you get lucky), and if you're off even a couple of thousandths, you risk the life of the ring gear and pinion.

there's a couple of DIY's here on the forums, but if you don't know what you're doin' or don't have the proper tools, i would definitely take it somewhere.

I'm glad to hear that you like the 3.9 gears with the Vortech. I have a buddy that has a G35 coupe and had a Vortech on it but said tha tif he had dones gears it would have been way to short to be a good thing. I had already done my gears at that point and I was thinking "Crap, should I take them out or what." I'm planning on going Vortech this winter so I can't wait to see what the combo is like. My biggest fear is traction so I'm definitely going to have to upgrade the tires, .
