Default Safest kind of 10mm spacer?

I posted this in the wheel and tire section.

https://my350z.com/forum/wheels-and-...-searched.html

But now that I know I need a set of spacers for the front, what kind?

I like the "bolt on" type, but I don't see any room for bolts with a 10mm spacer. Do they make "bolt on" spacers that thin?

Will a 10 mm spacer with new (longer) studs work just as well?

I am trying to move up to 275's on the front from 255's.

I use these spacers as needed (either 5mm or 10MM) from Z1 Motorsports in Atlanta . these are just plain spacers without studs...work fine. And Long ARP studs from SPL...this is a must for the track.

there are no "safe" spacers without an equal stud length upgrade.

how about an appropriate offset instead?

A complete set of wheels for 20mm of rubber? I don't want it that badly, and my car already handles well as is.

If I can get 275 rubber all around with "safe" spacers and studs, it's worth it to me. But I don't want to buy a complete set of wheels for an extra 20mm of rubber per front corner.

If the general consensus is that there is no safe way to get the clearance I need for the extra wheels I have, I will sell the extra set or keep them as spares.

don't miss my point. the only way "spacers" become inappropriate is when they lessen the number of rotations on the stud when you tighten the wheel. You need to have the number of threads covered. If you can lengthen the stud you're cool.

just be safe.

Thanks. If longer studs will make it safe on the track, I'm there.

And you will need some different lug nuts with "open ends" and proper thread pitch with the longer studs. I use these but any equivalent will do fine. These are about the cheapest steel one I have found!

Note: I use Steel nuts, not Aluminum!

AFAIK different expansion rates between aluminum and steel can cause thread failure.

I think we would have heard stories of aluminum lug nuts failing. I've used them without failure. never heard of a properly tourqued one failing.

If the lugs have aluminum threads, when taken on/off frequently they have a tendancy to strip, often causing the stud threads to also get messed up. I tossed mine in the trash after having to replace stud #5 in under 2 years. Giant PIA to have to deal

not all spacers require you to use open end lugs - depends which spacer, and/or what studs. I have spacers on my own car (that included longer studs to replace the factory ones), front and rear, and still use a closed end lug

Do not race with aluminum lugs, IMHO. Jet, you must be the lucky dog, becuase I have seen and experienced this countless times. Aluminum will flex and move under the extreme heat radiated by your brake rotors. Then you goto the remove them, and they are all f-ed up. I'd go with steel all the way. You won't see a race team using aluminum lugs nuts.

With respect to spacers. No problem using a precision cut spacer, as long as you have a sufficient long stud. It is fairly common for teams to swap spacers in and out, to help adjust the chassis performance on the track, or to keep big tires from rubbing.

Sh*t..... I must be pussyfooting it around the track! None of these problems ever happen to me. I'm going to have to step the game up and manhandle the car a little harder!

HA! that was at my local event at SGMP. I was working grid that day, you can see me in the back ground around the one minute mark. The wheel shop that installed his tires actually sold him the wrong sized lug nuts. He torqued them down to spec but all he was torquing was the lug nut stripping itself on the lug. Not an accurate representation of anything besides what the wrong sized lug nuts can do.
