thats exactly what Ataru ment. this looked like a regular "tourist" day, not a "lapping" day. on tourist days, its basically a public toll road, and there is a speed limit on the long front straight and a small section in roughly the middle of the track. but typically, nobody follows the speed limit, and nobody cares unless it causes and accident, then you get a ticket. on a tourist day, you can't do a full lap cause the course entrance and exit is on the main straight, and you have to come in after every lap, hence "bridge to gantry"

come to think of it, on my 9:55 lap, there was a section where i had to slow down to 40 km cause they were fixing the railing from an earlier accident that day...

and talking about having a vacation to the ring:
1) there are some renting place to rent a proper car (regular rentals send people to check for their car and they'll rape your a$$ if they spot you there).
even if you have an accident with the "race prep car" and they told you they have full liability.. there is a fee of about 5K to 10K (depends on the car) you have to pay.
2) even if you go offroad without any damage and a ring marshall stops you'll pay... something between 50 to 200 euros.
3) hope you don't hit and damage a rail... you'll get a SERIOUS bill in the mail later... (easy to go for over 1K for each section you damage)
4) GT4 or R-factor aren't the right way to learn the ring... you wouldn't be the first that "I have more than 10K laps on gran turismo and you total the car after 1 mile"
5) isn't a such safe place but NOBODY talks about that in public otherwise politicians will shutdown the place.. if you die on the ambulance, you aren't dead on the ring... so the published statistics aren't really accurate... probably address only those bikers that get beheaded or completely dismembered on the guardrail.
5b) this is the reason why they try to enforce the "no camcorders" while you drive.. so you won't get accidents on tape. (you can imagine what happen to a human body hitting a razor sharp guardrail and all the beams at 100+ mph.. that is pretty much the average speed for a bike there.. the average.)

+1

however, a member on here (first350, doesn't come on here often since he sold his z) went last year, he forgot which rental company he used, but he emailed them specifically about using their car on the 'ring and they said it was ok, and he drove one of their porsches on the 'ring. so you might be able to get away with it depending on the company.

really? i didn't know about this one, good thing there weren't any marshall's around on my 2 brief off road stints...

i think there is a max on this though (per section). iirc it says something like "x euro's per meter, x euros max"

but max is in the thousands...

+ a million

the track in real life is way different, some straights are longer, some are shorter, elevations are way way off

well, its 100+ if they're good. most of the bikes that were there were going marginally faster than me, and i even passed a few...

btw Ataru, incase it sounds like i'm trying to argue with you or something, thats not the case, just adding my personal experiences

we should do a "my350z" trip to the 'ring next year, who's down?

oh no absolutely
I just like to remember to people that likes to go there to pay attention.. because from being an OUTSTANDING experience could became a sort of tragedy really quick.

I'd love to ship the niZmo there.. but I wouldn't pass the noise test by a damn huge margin (of course... if you have a porsche cup or something really exotic they close both the eyes... but not for a "rice steamer")

my wet dream was about going back to italy to visit family and friends... and the face of the cops there would be priceless (because what is street legal here, there you'll have your car impounded for life) because... you're just a tourist.. so they have to accept your rules.

idk, i wouldn't wanna drive a car worth anything in italy, drivers there are crazy, 1/2 foot following distances are the norm, what's considered extreme wreckless dumbass driving here is completely normal. if you drive there the way most people drive here, they'll run you off the road for being to slow. and my favorite: they use bumpers when parallel parking...

but i'd love to drive my car all over germany, especially the autobahn. i rented a merc c hatch 1.8 kompressor with snow tires, so i couldn't go over 210 km... so that was kinda lame, but my car would be awesome there!

LOL
It changed a lot in last few years there... when I was younger we didn't event know there were actual speed limits... I grew up that the speed limits was how fast your car can actually go.
we were "laptiming" the time to go to school from one town to another... just for fun. (bad part of the story, some of us didn't made to 25 years..)
about using bumpers in parallel parking.. of course.. the parking space is about 15ft and cars are 14...

now is all about enforcement and incredibly expensive ticket... too bad, street anarchy was nice there
