This weekend at the ring'
Well once again I took another of my trips to the ring. After an uneventful drive on the autobahn i arrive around noon at the Nurburgring. The weather was partly cloudy with temps hovering around 75 with intermittant sprinkling of rain. after my initial Walk of drooling to the toll booth I got back in and hit up the ring. The first 2 laps went well and were uneventful passing only 2 vehicles that had unfortunately went off track.
So at this point ive built up a sizeable hunger so i paused an hour to eat and talk with the group i came with then hit the track a third time.
It started out fairly uneventful and was going quite well, And then i hit Brunnchen... I hit the apex just slightly abover my ideal speed and was forced to slow in the turn so my exit speed was not phenominal. About 25 meters past the exit of the turn i had rolled onto throttle and logs show i was about 95% throttle going in a relatively straight line when the back end of the car suddenly kicked loose and tried to bring the back end around. I countersteered got the car straight and slowed down but onfurtunately it had already set me up for a low speed off track excursion into the railing.
I was fine, the Airbags didnt deploy, and the car was still running. I did a quick pulloff to get the car completely off the track. Then waited for the controllers to come and do the inspection. Below are the results.

When it was all said and done, It looks like mostely cosmetic damage. No leaks from the motor, hell the intercooler was not even damaged. the fenders have slight bends to them due to the bumper pushing up. When the controller and i looked back, just prior to where my tire marks started there was a 2 foot wet spot of something that was dark and not water.
All said and done i had a greattime and given a couple weeks i hope to be hitting it again

It was a blast. And i'll be back next month if able. I am still waiting on the bill for the railing but i'm expecting about 3,000. As minor as the damage seems according to insurance it might be a total loss.
Well, the estimate came back, its going to be a total loss. This being in part to the euro to dollar rate and the fact the insurance companies repair facility was marking up all parts MSRP by 50%. So this looks like i'll be getting a another 350z. Its better anyways, the G's were always top heavy pigs.
Been there, done that. (See my avatar). I had a little more damage, but I still ran it after it was cleared to go and cleaned up a little. Looking forward to tracking again soon, its been over a year!
as for the new car, why not get a 370z instead of a 350?
1 meter of rail: 31 euros
support beam removal: 5.10 euros each
new support beam: 39 euros
safety car assistance: 89 euros per 10 minutes.
track shutdown: 1350 euros / hour
tow truck: 175 euros
add a 16% vat and those are 2006 prices... probably 2009 are around 20% more.
vat is at 19 now. No tow truck was needed. and each rail is 4 meterts long. i got charged for 3 rails so 12m. 1 person responded for 1/2 hour. I dont know exactly what its going to come out to.
Highway, Your right. it isnt much damage. About $3000 worth of parts at MSRP. Most of that being the headlight. BUT because of a 50% mark up of parts by the insurance companies estimator and the outrageous price in euros for the work....
The next car ir going to be a dedicated weekend/track car. With the high initial price for the 370 and the lack of FI options its not meeting my goals.
