Very heads-up move there @ 2:33 driving off line behind that car that clearly blew something (Z32?)... but I gotta give you a hard time for something...

REALLY not a good idea to remove the airbag when you're wearing on open face helmet... looks like it's time for a new helmet and a H&N restraint device of some sort my friend

I already got it (the closed face) and a hans.. but I'm waiting to install the roll bar before going with the hans.. the 6 point harness is already "too much" w/o the roll bar

yeah.. on the Z32 that blew up I went off the line to avoid to build up oil on the tires on the straight.... (another lesson learned in the hard way long time ago)

I am interested to hear your opinion of Time Attack.

To the OP, running a turbo kit will NOT automatically put you in Modified class. You can run a 350Z with a twin turbo system, and still compete in Street Class. If you set the car up right, and learn to drive really well, you will be super competitive. I would love to see someone do this actually, becuase the Evo's and STi's always seem to clean up in Street Class.

With regards to powerband, in a perfect world of course we'd all like tons of power and trq from idle to redline. But like everything, there is a tradeoff. What is "better" can be hard to establish. Depends a lot on the track, but since the 350Z has very good midrange torq from the factory, I would prefer a little more top end, even at the expense of some midrange or bottom end trq. If you drive the car correctly, you will have all the trq and power you need from about 3500rpm to redline.

I see you posted that on 6/21/09. What date was the track day? That looks like the SPL Z32 that was smoking in front of you. . .

BTW, you or that DB Z33 at 4:10 is clearly in the wrong run group. Same goes for the MB at 7:35.

that was for the texas Z party.
yes, was Kuah with the SPL Z32.
the DB TT Z33 was driven in the advanced group by an instructor
the MB was an instructor at MSR testing the car I guess.

Had an oil line spring a leak, sorry The engine is fine though, admittedly at the time I thought the problem was a lot more serious, since I was "breaking in" the engine at 22psi of boost...

Kuah tells me he blew an oil line. Doh!

BTW - great lap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAKVX...eature=related

I've used that same telemetry system before, however, was there a way that you knew you had recorded your best lap (I saw the arm pump)?

was ONLY 2 sessions that I was lapping in the 1.50.x where x was 0, 1, 2 or 3.... when it did show 1.49.6 I was too happy.
then I started to slow down in the 1.50.x again just to have fun and mess with the other guys

actually also because my clutch was slipping, one of the steering wheel CV joint start having some play (the lower one just before the power steering rack), my brake pads where close to the end and after 5 sessions I was "a little" worn out with 100+ degrees outside in the afternoon.

one of the biggest issue was the heat soak with that temperature...
I had my best lap of the session after one or two full laps than I was just getting slower.

edit: nismo 350z in 1.49.6 http://www.vimeo.com/5257086
lotus exige in 1.49.4 http://www.vimeo.com/5990059

I'll try to edit them together to check the difference.

btw...

So the data logger can display your laps as you finish them after all? I've never seen that feature, but would love to have the instant feedback.

BTW, your line was much better than that Exige. Sorry, OP, for the thread jack.

yes it can... you have your choice between lap / split time or speed...
what I do is to setup the track using google earth at home, setup the splits "offline" using the rule of "major straights" and than use the speed in the first couple of sessions just to improve the line and the exit speed where it does matter...
when I start seeing that I'm consistent with that I switch to lap timing and to work out the "connections'

yeah but that boost z33 wasnt an agressive driver. he was braking on turns where you could have EASILY let off the gas, steer, and WOT.
to be honest that blue z33 owner drove like he was TOO worried about curbing his chrome wheels/crackin his body kit. lol
so yeah you laugh at him all you want. he wasnt even a serious competitor.

its almost like somebody sayin just because someone is 6 foot 5 they can automatically play basketball. height dont mean **** if you can use it. BUT if you DO have skills the taller you are the better. ie. HP aint **** if you cant control it. BUT if you CAN CONTROL it the MORE the BETTER. that boost'd Z wasnt **** because he couldnt MAXIMIZE/CONTROL his power. you were better than him because you COULD MAXIMIZE/CONTROL your POWER.

I'd rank horsepower pretty low on the list for a car to be fast around a road course. This is my personal list based on assuming the same car (i.e. 350z):

1. Driver
2. Tires
3. Brake set-up
4. Suspension
5. Horsepower and aero compete for fifth/sixth

actually the guy with the blue Z is a very nice guy so is his dad... but not impressive drivers... but your attitude is just the right one.
go ahead and have fun.

HELL yeah power is important, you think that cyber evo makes it aound the tsukuba circuit in approx 54 sec with only 287 HP?????? or the mazda 787b runs great at 24hr endurance races with stock power output from TWO 13b motors????

NO... these cars have TONS of power with great Drivers. LOok at cheston's Z. he does time attack and has 550whp, Furthermore, the guy we all love Sharif from Forged Perfotmance has a high horsepower (500whp +) GTR he races. What about the M-Works 350z that runs at buttonwillow. that car was TONS of power.

So i dont see why there are stone faces. and people replying back like im idiot. YES driver/suspension are key but power also plays A GOOD ROLE in fast lap time. Im just concerned on how to model my POWERBAND when i get my tune in a couple of weeks.
