Glenn, what tires/sizes do you think I should run. I'm going to run the Street tire pax class here in the Oregon Region. So dual purpose tires for daily driving and auto-x. (I don't care about the rain, snow, ice, etc.)

Your signature block is listing 245/275 tires on stock Track wheels. Do you have pictures of this setup? Just curious since I'm considering the same sized tires for my '06 rims (same size as track rims).

why are you going so narrow? Z1 star specs are supposed to be great ST tires for heavier cars like ours. I'd really consider R-compounds. its worth the trouble/money, I wouldnt go back to running on street tires unless i absolutely had to. if youre gonna go with the direzzas get some 275/35-18 Z1s all the way around and run some 5 or 10mm spacers to make room up front.

Default For those running a square setup

Do you drive your square setup on the streets?

Reason I ask is because I'm consdering getting 265/35/18's all around. And I looked on the tire calculator thingy and it says it'll be off 3.62% from my stock size. However, my understanding is that the 3% limit is supposed to be between the FR and RR, not from the original size?

I dunno, a bit confused. Maybe anybody that's running 265/35's on the street can chime in that'd be great. 275/35 would be under the 3% limit but may be too wide for a 8.5" wheel.

Yes I searched, but still a bit confused. Thanks.

Edit: I have an 05 Enthusiast, so no VDC, just TCS.

I run 275/35-18's all the way around on the street, dunno what the problem is really? nice neutral (by comparison) handling, better braking, looks good...

i'm more concerned for the ecu going crazy and flashing the slip light and turning on TCS all the time. But I got it clarified that it's actually the difference between the front and rear tires instead of the tire dia vs oem dia itself.

What size wheels are you running the 275's on?

Im looking to run a 275/40/18 rear with a 265/35/18 front and would like to know if this will effect the TSC and VDC systems ?

You will be fine with either 265 or 275 on all 4 corners. My street setup is 265/35/18 fronts 295/35/18 rears. TSC and VDC are fine with those sizes.

if you don't have VDC, I don't think you will have any issues...go for it!

I have VDC, but have completely disabled it by removing the Yaw sensor to effectively run a square setup on the track....and the street if needed.

Yea, you're fine because you're running a staggered setup. Which the ecu is programmed to learn.

My concern was running the square setup on the 265/35's all around for the following reasons:

1) It's about a 3.XX % different overall dia difference compared to OEM
2) The ecu is programmed to read about a 2.8% between rear and front with about a 3% tolerance.

Therefore if I take the 2.8% difference and subtract the 3% tolerance, the max tolerances are -0.2% and 5.8%. With the staggered stance being a 0% difference FR/RR, I'm hoping to fall between that range. (this is my interpretation)

On a side note, I'm running 255/40's all around now with no problems whatsover. My only concern is that the 255/40 is about a 0.68% difference than stock while the 265/35 is the 3.xx % difference.

Stupid track tires, if they only made RE01R's/ XS / NT-05's in 265/40 I'd be all over them

I don't necessarily want to go narrow, I just wanted to keep the stock size tire diameter so the odometer doesn't tack on extra miles by running a shorter diameter tire. That's the reason I listed the sizes I did.

If I run the Direzza 275s all the way around, the rear tires will be shorter then stock which means every 1000 miles I drive, my odometer will say I've driven 1041 miles. Not horrible I know, but since I'll be daily driving on them also, and I drive alot, not sure if I want to do that.

Right now I can't afford a set up wheels and tires. ALso I travel a couple hundred miles for some autox's and I often have a passenger with me, so I couldn't transport them.

I will see if I can find the thread on that ...but it is easy:

Disconnect the battery:
Lift up the center console, find a little gizmo the size of a pack of cigs mounted just behind the shifter, disconnect the wiring harness..
Re-connect the battery

and ALL VDC/BFD functions are killed and ABS works..

This is for a Track or Grand Touring model...but may apply to others.

Well, I have Kumho ASXs that I use for both street driving and as my "rain" tires.

For summer-only tires, I'd probably go with Kumho XS in 245/40R18F and 275/40R18R. On my ASXs, the car is on the "push" side of neutral.

I've used 245/45/18, 265/35/18 and 275/35/18 square, and I don't have TCS problems. However...most of the time, I turn off TCS because I just don't like having it, especially if I have to get on the gas hard to get through a busy intersection

There is no 275/40/18 for the XS or I would be all over them. Same goes with the Dunlop Star Specs. Kumho XS has crap sizes for 18" wheels.

My root question: is a skinnier, better, more grippy, "extreme performance summer tire" better then a wider, not as good, higher treadwear rating, "ultra high performance summer tire"?

The skinnier tire will weigh less at least. Grip being equal and no concern for tread life, get the grippy skinny tire.
