Just an update. Now that the season is over I'm thinking of next season.

My plan is to stay with the square setup as I plan on competing for points in Auto-x but still will attend a few track days. I'll also be adding a FR swaybar (per stock class rules) to generate some understeer for that safer feeling. I think the swaybar will help the car feel less "about to spinout" feeling. But we'll see next season!!

I went to a square setup this year, because I got a deal on some r-compounds. I have to say I like it alot. I am talking about autocross not track days. Next year will be the first time for a square setup on the track, I'll let you know.

hey Dave any updates now that the season is over?

I drove on used 615's this season and I got the feeling that the tire was very greasy, especially when hot. Now I don't know how many times these tires have been heat cycled, but now it's my turn to decide whether to get a new set of 615's and see if they're the same greasyness, or add the extra $300 for the RE01R's

Actually, I just bought them about 2 months ago and still haven't had a chance to use them. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of it next year and will get a chance to report on them next spring.

Default Tires...redundant title I know

Time for new tires (stock 06 Z [18's] running in BS in a street tire grouping). Dual purpose tires for street and auto-x. Street driveability isn't too much an issue(i drove on Azenis 615s year round through all of Oregon's rain and some icy conditions).

I was looking at getting the Dunlop Star Specs, but at the same time I am trying to get some wider rubber

If I go with the Dunlop I'll probably end up running a square setup: 245/40 front and 245/45 rear. To maintain the stock size height but will add some width to the front but the rear will still be stock size and I already had linear traction problems.

I've been running the Falken FK-452s in stock 225/45 and 245/45 and have been decently pleased with them. I can continue to run those tires and go to a 245/40 front and a 275/40 rear. Or run a similiar tire the Sumitomo Htrz III in a 255/40 and 275/40.

What is everyone's take? (I didn't want to ask non-autoxers in the tire forum)

I stay with the stock sizes and find a good tire for normal driving. I drive 300 miles a week to/from work. I'll run street tires 4 or 5 times locally during the year when I don't want to change tires at local events.

If there was a street tire class for the Z like the Florida local class, STU2, I'd get the RE01R but I still be changing tires at the event.

I looked at you signature and have to ask. Test pipes are allowed in B Stock out in Oregon?

I have a friend using the Dunlop Direzza's, he is very pleased with them on backroads and track driving so far. I'm using Kumho Ecsta XS and I'm also very happy with them, road and track. I've never driven on the 615's so I can't compare them.

No, I'm currently running just the Nismo catback. The Utec and test pipes have been removed.

I'll be running in BS in a pax class where people are running on street tires.

I hav not run the RE-01's on my Z but my brother (drives an STi) just switched from RE-01's to star specs and says they are comprable in performance. However, the star specs don't wear as well as the RE-01's.

I had to run mismatched tires at state, because of availability issues, (XS's on the rear and star spec's on the front) but the XS's seem to be better than the star spec's so far.

I have ran MX's, 615's, BFG KD's (not the KDW's) star spec's and the XS's. Out of all those, the XS's are the best tire I have ever ran on my Z.

615's were my least favorite.

So the XS's should be better than the RE-01R's then? Looks like we have a new best tire!

Look into the Nitto NT01. Nice tire for the money.

100 treadwear. Hopefully 10,000 miles out of a set. Horrible in rain from what I hear. Unnecessary for anything but competition in my opinion. My XS's are sticky enough for street use.

looks like next year a lot of "super ultra high performance" tires will keep coming out.
nitto with nt-05, the new yoko ad08, hankook rs3, bridgestone re11... kumho xs is already out

I run star specs 245/40 245/45 and its Awesome in the autocross, I pull 1.0g's braking and 1.03g's cornering (with a datalogger) , with stock suspension the car feels very neutral.

1.0g isn't really great, I regularly see 1.15-1.20G on my street tires (Kumho ASX All-Seasons), and have seen a peak reading of 1.53G on DOT-R Kumho V710s.

I guess it differs on what sort of equipment you are using, Im using a MaxQdata hi-def.

So, first integral of velocity, but not the actual force.

As opposed to a accelerometers connected to the vehicle.

(I used to work in space & defense, and have extensively investigated GPS technology -- including military-grade GPS hardware. I've also investigated accelerometers, and direct measurement accuracy of 0.001g is easy -- and inexpensive)
