Curious to see if 245, 265 Sumitomos HTRZIII will fit 04 Track rims. The cost of these tires are amazing and it did beat some pretty big names in Tirerack testing. For me, the test results and cost have sold me on these tires. Even though at the track they might be slightly slower than Potenzas, I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyways. I'm not looking to be the fastest car out there. Just have some fun.

Obviously there are better choices...

U'd be hard pressed to find a better choice at this price point tho. I'd like to see an example of a better choice.

I was wanting to do a square setup as well...will 275/40/18's have enough clearance in
of all components in the front with 18x9.5 +30 wheels?

I searched, but I couldn't find anything specific with these tire sizes and the offset.

Just an update:

I got myself a set of (4) 18x8.5 Rays Track Wheels and will be mounting 265/35 Bridgestone RE11's when they come out in March!

From what I gather, the Sumi's will "fit" fairly easily. There are plenty of threads on here showing a 275's and even 285's fitting.

The real question, and the one i'm trying to get feedback on, is if you aren't using a top level tire then will the extra tread width be rendered useless by the undesired side effects of going oversize?

Thanks for your help...I think it will work, but like you said it'll be very close. I'm also on stock suspension.

I am running 275/35/18 up front on +30 wheels on Tein S-tech's up front and never rubbed a thing with plenty of mountain, autocross and track driving.

Most 275/40s are narrower than 275/35s at the tread so it should work with stock springs no problem but don't quote me.

Sport Compact Car did an article (I believe you can download it from their website, hurry, they are closing the doors) where they did 40s up front but they were using BBS wheels and I don't remember the offsets. Later they hated their square setup because it was tail happy (snap oversteer kind of stuff). My personal feeling is they should have soften up the back swaybar but they ended up changing tires instead.

Yeah, there are a few pics out there showing a 275/40/18 on a 18x9 +30, and that is a really tight fit as far as inside fitment is concerned. That makes me think that 275/40/18 on 18x9.5 +30 won't work without at least a 5mm spacer. The choice of tires is also a factor as tires are different in dimensions by manufacturer, although they may specify the same size. Also, the wider tires in the front will put more stress on the power steering, which you don't want if you track your car. It will overheat the PS system. That can be resolved with an aftermarket PS oil cooler suitable for the setup (NISMO, etc.). For street use with the OEM PS oil cooler, it'll be most likely fine, but turning at lower speeds will be more difficult and that serves more so as a hint that the PS system has to work harder for turns. I will go with a staggered setup with 265/35/18 in the front for fitment. A more suitable PS oil cooling unit is recommended if you track the car. With a square setup, you will have to make adjustments to your driving style as the car will handle at a more neutral feel (oversteer comes more easily though) vs. the OEM staggered understeer setup.

Default Max Tire Size on Nismo Wheels

Now before you guys grab your whips and start whippin me back to the tire and wheel section, I've already checked tires/wheels, Nismo section, track/auto-x but I haven't found anything that answers the question I have.
I will be running my car in B stock this year and at open track days. What is the LARGEST sized tire you can fit on a stock 07 Nismo wheel.
Wheels being 18x9 and 19x10, the largest I've seen are Vette guys (who have the same size wheels) running 295/30/18 and 315/30/19
Now I know the tires will fit on the wheel. The question is, will they fit running stock suspension and without rolling the fenders?

I know a 295 will fit in the rear. He's running a 1/2in spacer, I guess I can assume if I don't run a spacer I should be able to fit the 315 without rub in the rear.

The 315 should fit with no spacer. I run 285/30-18s up front. The 295/30-19 works well on a 10"wide wheel. I run Hoosier A6s. I run 40 psi front and 35psi rear cold and bleed pressure between run as the tires heat up.

Finally ordered a set of tires ... a set of (4) 265/35/18 Kumho Ecsta XS tires to be used as dedicated AutoX tires on my stock rims.

Not exactly the Dunlop Star Specs I've been wanting ... but from what i seen, just as good and a lil less expensive.

I'm still curious if any one has experience running HTRZIIIs or any similar tires oversize for AutoX. Post your experience if you have.

I have not used the HTRZ3 oversize but I run them in 245/45-18 on 8.5" wheels all around on my 350Z as street tires and last minute track/autocross tires. They are better on the track then at an autocross. Sidewalls are medium, not stiff like they claim so they are a bit slow to transition. Grip is pretty good and they handle heat well. They are not going to win any street ire classes in track or autocross use unless the class is weak or the Sumitomo driver is a great shoe.

I personally think these tires are the best street tire (assuming you're not trying to be a race driver on the street) you can get regardless of money spent and they work well on the track.

Good to know. I've heard many people praise the HTRZIII as an excellent daily tire and have read reviews that they are more than adequate on the track. I'm planning to pick up a set of the HTRZIII's when the HTRZII's on my daily rims are worn.

I'm using the Kumho XS's as my AutoX only tires and the Sumi's for street and track. I'm not so hardcore into HPDE that I need great tires on the track. Since there is no clock running and I'm only out there lapping for fun then I've been perfectly happy with the HTRZII's i've been using.
