For the 350Z (mostly track, but street capable), I would look at KW Club Sports (spring rate based on your tire, car weight, driving style..etc..etc.). I ran the TEIN SRC's double adjustable on the 350Z, and I though they were very good overall as well.

Setup really has a lot to with it. As long as you have a good base to work with, some seat time, and adjustment will go a long way.

i felt comfortable on v.1 and street tire ( advan sport ) . after playing with the swaybars and tire pressure i got the car very stable.

now - a more aggressive alignment and r888.... will see how she does in june.

I have the v.3's and love 'em. The Z is my daily driver (smooth enough to tolerate on the street) and I track it a few times a year. I run RA1's for the track. Like Sharif says, setup is everything.

Default 5Zigen FNO1R-C 17x10 Brake Clearance Question

Tried asking in the wheel and tire forum, but with no luck. Noticed alot of people in the track/auto-x run these wheels so i thought i would try and ask here. Was wondering if they cleared the oem brembos or the new akebonos? Thanks.

What offset? I, as well as many others, run them over Stoptechs or Brembos in the +25 offset.

Not sure about the Akebonos. They look big, maybe bigger than my 328mm Stoptechs. The +25 is about all you can do in the front, as it's very close to the upper arm. Some guys run a little shim spacer on the 17x10 +25s, some don't. It's very close on the inside, then very close on the outside with the shim.

This is correct, I ran the 17x10 ET25 with either a 3MM or 5MM spacer in the front so to give a little more clearance between the inside wheel lip and the suspension upright. You don't HAVE to run the spacers, but I think it gives you a little extra room for wheel bearing flex/movement under heavy cornering.

But you have PLENTY of brake clearance with the Brenbos

BTW: I have a set of 5Zigen FNO1R-C 17x10 ET 25 for sale...
PM me for details

Default Z1 Star Specs vs. Hankook RS-3s

It's time to buy new tires and I'm debating between the Dunlop Star Specs and the new Hankook RS-3's. I've previously used the rt615's in a staggered 245/275 setup but I'm not going back to them for obvious reasons. This year I chose a square setup and I'm looking at these two tires in particular. Just wondering if anyone has experience with either and would like to share. This is for track use, but I want to stay over 140 TW. Any input is greatly apprieciated.

i read that the star specs are awesome tires but are pretty loud, but since it's for track use you shouldn't have a problem with them.

I am waiting for my stock Potenza's to wear out completely so I can slap on my RE-01R's!

I've been rocking the Z1 star spec on my G35 coupe for over half of a season now, I absolutely love it. The ultimate grip might not be as sticky as RE01R, but that also depends on track surface and your setup. I was running RT615 last season (on a Nissan 240sx), it was great until it heats up, it became greasy very quick once the tyre is overheated. Also RT615 grip fall off quick after 40 or so autoX runs, I blame it on the crazy heat cycle I was putting it thru.

The reason I compare the Z1 star spec to RE01R earlier was, I used both tires on a AP1 S2000 before. I can't really tell you which one is a faster tire. Bridgestone might be a tag faster, but for the money, Z1 star spec hands down. I think you can make up that 100th of a second by driving.

Oh, Z1 star spec in the rain is absolutely awesome. great feedback, sweet turn in and braking. Did I mention i won a wet race with it

now, i'm open to listen some of you about the Hankook RS-3, I've heard they are not that bad but I wonder how they would perform on a 3200+lb cars like 350z.

Anyone noticed half of the grid in touring class at 2008 Solo Nationals were using Z1 star spec? I wonder if the field will switch to Bridgestone RE11 this September at Lincoln

Why not RE-11's?

The Star Specs are great, but I have never tried the RS-3's.

The RE-11 seems to be one of the better tires but I have not seen anything that justifies the price gap between them and the cheaper "extreme" tires out there.

GRM did a test and found the XS's to be a little faster than the RE-11's and the XS's cost less.

Great info...It seems that the RS-3's are still pretty new and theres not many reviews out there yet...from what I see they are supposed to be alot better than tires in the Star Spec/NT05/RT615 classes...

FWIW, I have ran the Star Specs and the 615's. The Star Specs are much better (faster) than the 615's. (I have no info on the NT-05's)

I would NOT recomend the RT-615's. Tires are so cheap now that the 615's price don't make them worth it anymore.

I would agree with Z1 on both points:

1) Star Specs should be A LOT better than 615's
2) I read the GRM article and they did rate the XS better than RE-11. I have the RE-11's and I'm concerned about treadwear. One of the main reasons I got the RE-11's cuz I got a really good price on them and because I'm a loyal bridgestone guy. But they have performed far above my expectation that's for sure. Bdblackz has them on his 07 GT and he's been killin his local BS Class with RX-8's on R-comps while he's running the RE-11's

However, looking at the hankook's and star specs they both seem to follow the same symmetrical tread design as the RE01R's so they should both perform pretty well. I guess I'd look into what the others are saying regarding whether each tire can handle our heavy car, tire wear for others, cost, and wet/try handling depending on where you live.

Good luck and let us know what you think!

Other than the XS, I would also consider the NT-05s and maybe AD08s if they are not to pricey.

Tirerack did a test on most of these tires, but the results are not yet on their website. However results posted here http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=333857

From that test, the tires are all very close, but the AD08s were faster. However the RE11s offer a better ride which is a consideration if you DD the car. I currently run the RE11s and think the ride and noise are no worse than stock.

From reviews, the XSs still do quite well after they heat up.

Thanks for all the info...After researching some more, hankook rs-3's are just considered an unknown right now until there are more reviews out there. Unfortunately it will probably take a while. As far as pricing goes the RS-3's are roughly $100 more per set than the Star Specs. With the Dunlops being a proven tire, it makes it sort of obvious. But I still have hope for the RS-3's...They are claimed to be faster than the Dunlops. Nitto NT05's are also attractive price wise, but again, another new tire with 1 or 2 reviews with no track use as of yet...

I'm having a good experience with the kumho XS but nothing really to compare except the azenis RT 615 that I had before.
they can hold the temperature (38psi hot) and they don't get greasy.

^^By "they" you mean the Kumho XS's don't get greasy right? (at least mine don't)
